Not quite, the Taurus was never officially going to replace the Falcon, but the yanks wanted to sell it here to test the waters to see if it could. Luckily it tanked.

That was years before Geoff Polites was boss though.

I thought the Falcon destroyed the Taurus in the comparo, which put a dagger through Detroits idea to potentially replace Falcon with Taurus. From memory I thought they thought the Falcon was better in every way.

Does anyone have a better recollection of the article?

The Taurus looked like a squashed frog, it destroyed itself. Much the same way as the current one will.

My 2008 XRT has better better fuel economy for the same power and an auto is faster then a SHO. It doesn't even have a manual gearbox.

Technology doesn't faze me, a better car is more important then seat warmers for example.

I read about that in the paper today, was somewhere in Europe, Russia I think.

One very confused owner.

(if you cant make it out, those hubcaps have toyota logos on them!)

That's doesn't worry me the slightest. But If he took off the Ford badge and stuck a toyota one on, I'd have to shake my head.
There is a big differance.

Dude, totally agree. Admittedly I thought the new VF interior looked not too bad, until you see the holden badge on the steering whele. It just looks ****. Horrible looking badge. I occasoobally think when I see a Holden if it would actually be an ok looking car without the dumb looking badge

I have the magazine. The Falcon (EF Fairmont actually) did indeed destroy the Taurus.

When the Taurus tanked, Ford NA gave the go ahead for another Australian Falcon, but said that it had to be designed according to Ford's 'oval' design theme. Midway through the AU's development, Ford's design theme became 'new edge'. This explains the AU's edgy exterior and oval interior.

This was before Geoff, who was the guy responsible for bringing the Territory to market (the first SUV to offer a 2 wheel drive version).
