Would the AU XR8 make a decent weekend track/tarmac rally car? I'm willing to spend cash on it, just need to know if it would make a decent base to work on thats all

Yes it would a go track/tarmac rally because parts are common, easy to work on, plus plenty of go fast bit to put on the car. It won't be the fastest or the best handling but it well be alot of fun to drive.

Yes they would but if you can stretch a little further a T3 would be an even better option with the stroker motor, stronger gearbox & bigger brakes especially if you got one with the brembos.

I'd love one, but i already own an XR8 and arent due for an upgrade till next year. So i have to stick with what I have.

Is it going to be a daily driver aswell? Depends what model ur have if its an S2 (mainly for brakes and rigidity). Maybe a stroker kit and some decent brakes and i think as has been said it might not be the fastest but you WILL have some fun

Get urself some adjustable coilovers to improve its handling so u can tune ur suspension for each track/race. Also some light weight racing wheels to lower unsprung weight, which also improves handling...

I can't see why not. Daryl Coon won two championships in the production car series with a bog stock XR6 HP years ago.

Yep, AU XR8's are a very well balenced car but with some mods could make a great track car.
Depends how much of a budget you have as to how good it can & will be. |

Its a series 1. I'm not real worried that its only the first series as I am upgrading to AP 4 spots. Not going to stroke it, cost too much. Coilovers sound good. Anybody know how much for a set? Its a daily driver at the moment as I'm waiting to get a new car for the missus and a moto for me, then it will become an every now and again car.
I'm looking at doing the suspension first. Lightweight rims are definately on the agenda as I need new tyres anyway so i'll do both at once. Anybody knows who sells a decent set of rims? I want black ones. |

I see coilover sell for around $1500 mark for imports. Talk to Whiteline suspension, i hear good things about them. Rays Engineering, Enkni, CSA, 5Zigen all make good lightweight rims...

Whiteline dont do coilovers for the AU. All they offer is a camber caster kit and sway bars. Anybody know if Tein coilovers will fit?
Also should I stay with 17's or should I go 18's? Last edited by old fordnut; 20-02-2007 at 11:03 PM. |
