Default leads for V8

what leads are everyone running on there 5.0 litres, when i went to get some the other day the bloke at sprints got the books out on 3 different companies and no one made a bigger lead than 8.5mm. i wanted something bigger around the 9-10mm range is there a reason why we cant get these?

Size is probably not the best way to decide/compare leads.

I'm happy with my magnecore leads, but these days i'd probably go with a set of custom MSD leads from BOTTLEDUP.

Check out the leads from Performance Distributors in the states, I have used these and they are great, expect to pay $300 for a set though.

I'm using 8.0mm Eagle leads and they seem to be doing the job well.

Whats wrong with the ford ones, have you checked the resistance on the leads?Cheaper to just test the original ones before you fork out for newys

I don't have an 8 but have used ICE ignition leads on my last 2 cars and have not had a problem with them. They are 9mm.

$600 to $800 is "normal" for new leads from Ford.

You can get Topgun Max300s for around $200, and other brands as well.

There is a mob in Hallam that was selling bougicord leads ( without Ford written on them ) for $85 a set of 8. Here is an old E-bay link, it might be worth a call

Whats right with ford ones. A year or so ago They quoted me something stupid like 7 or 8 hundred dollars for a set to suit a T3 engine.

From what a manufacturer said the reason you dont usually get over 9mm leads for a 5l engine is that the terminals to go into the coil packs find it too tight a squeeze.

Bah dont let the topic get in the way of a good bit of Ford Bashing! :hihi:

Easiest way to check your leads is to check your odo. If theyve done over 100,000kms, replace 'em.

i must have paid 180 for the eagle leads and laughed at ford when they told me 300 or something stupid like that. I cant see how they justify 300 bucks for a set of leads. The little plastic clips must be expensive to make
