Default Wanted ute

I am just thinking this out loud so let me know your thoughts. I am after a ute. There is nothing in Townsville at the moment. I would love to fly down to Brisbane and get the car I want but I wouldn't know where to start. I was thinking of offering a spotters fee of say $200 to somebody from this forum from Brisbane (or closer to Townsville) who could find me an XR6 manual ute between 1997 model to ser 111 Au. I will spend up to 10,000 for the right car but I would expect quite a lot at that price. I would pay the $200 when I bought the ute. Is this possible or am I barking up the wrong tree ?

Sounds like a reasonable request to me. Dont know how much you will get out of an AU XR6 ute for 10g's- but you will definetely get a good clean 1998 XHII XR6 for around 10g. How tall are you? as i found XH's are a little tight for me (i am 6'2") but AU's are more roomier.

Hi StealthAu, they both look pretty good. The Burgandy one has quite a few Klms on it for 8.5 but it does look in good condition. The white one has good K's but for 10,000 it would want to be in almost perfect condition. I guess for the $200 I would expect somebody to actually go and look at the cars and give me an assessment on what they think and maybe find out what their bottom dollar might be. When the right car came up maybe taking me to the car from the airport. Am I expecting too much for $200?

Seems resonable, depending on how many cars need inspecting prior to a purchase. If you search sites such as the one I linked, make contacted with the sellers and ask all the questions you need to know, get them to email you photo's to help narrow down your choices, I can check them out and test drive them, and provide details with any faults and price you would be able to get it for.

Sounds good. I will start doing searches and contacting the sellers and get back to you when I have something. Thanks.

Thats certainly the case in Townsville. Looks like I might have better luck in Brisbane. If you couldn't find one in Sydney it must have been difficult everywhere.

I don't think you'll get an AU xr for under 10. I was looking about 6 months ago and like someone else said nothing much not even an XL under 10g. I did end up finding a low k's manual AU XL for 8500 so there are bargains to be had.

i say troll the usual internet car sites for a couple of weeks

There may be a nice white AUII XLS EGAS up for sale in the not too distant future.
Auto though ... and 267,000km on it (fastidious/regular servicing) ... going cheap though.

Plenty of mods ... very clean.

Another ute ... something new ... and more power.
Although I have fixed the annoying little things the other day .... not sure if i want to sell it ... but I need to think about work more ... so most likely go trayback (custom).

See how finances pan out.
