A TON (Traffic offence notice) or "ticket" is usually issued on the spot. A breech of the traffic act is usually issued by summons for greater offences. e.g. 100km/h over will usually attract dangerous driving rather than speeding.

I suspect PIN is Victorian for TON as Redrum has a fairly good inside knowlege of what goes on down there

45+ in nsw is instant loss of licence & a court date.

Unfortunately, like all walks of life, there are good blokes and there are spankers in Victoria Police. Just like there are are good blokes that own Fords, and others that make you embarrassed to say you own a Ford. Just because he didn't say anything about a fine, it doesn't mean you wont get one in the mail. Even if he didn't show you the reading, you can still get a fine, but you are always entitled to inspect the reading on the radar/laser.

A PIN is a Penalty Infringment Notice, not sure about a TON.

If a member states you may or may not, generally this is said so that you don't get upset with them at the time, but most of the time you will get a fine. I will always tell someone if they are getting one or not.

Why would he need to see the reading when he admits he was speeding. Asking to see the reading is only for smart alecs that think it's cool to speed and don't believe that they will ever get caught.

Huh? Unusual?

I think its unusual for them to do it later - They have to write down offense times and locations - If they are writing it down on a notepad - they will have to do it again anyway.

It sounds like the Policeman has a brain - 125 is a 100 zone is not outrageous -

and a 6month holiday from driving
in NSW it is
30K over 3 months off the road
45K over 6months off the road
plus any period from the loss of points so you could possibly add 3 months to that depending on your points status and maybe double demerits

There looks to be a few discrepancies in the fines for 15-30km/h as well.
I had read previously that losing 6-points or more in one offence meant instant licence suspension ... but can't seem to find that.

(So in other words ... you get done for speeding even the tiniest bit over the limit on double demerit point periods means you walk for a little while).

Still need to confirm this though.

Traffic law is simple.

If driving over 35 in a 100 zone but not in a below 100 zone you get a ticket for half of that which you were over, plus or minus the amount that you should have been driving minus the date and year of the figure you were speeding by except on the occasion you are in an under 100 zone but not before september on a rainy day, at which point you move your clothes down onto the lower peg immediately after lunch, before you write your letter home, if you're not getting your hair cut, unless you've got a younger brother who is going out this weekend as the guest of another boy, in which case, collect his note before lunch, put it in your letter after you've had your hair cut, and make sure he moves your clothes down onto the lower peg for you.

See? Simple.

On a side note, I disappointed an officer of the law the other night on the way home. Had a finger jammed in one ear searching out a piece of nazi gold that was itching like a dose of thailand crabs. A passing policeman in a ute sees my hand up by my ear, slams on his breaks, lights up the roof, looks at me with the glee that can only be found from a mobile phone infringement fine, just in time to see me remove said nazi gold from my ear and inspect it for identifying marks. Much disappointment, smile vanished, and off he sped down the road. A shame. I was willing to share my find.

from my understanding, you lose your lic for 6months as part of the penalty. eg seatbelt offence on double demerit weekend = 6+ points but doesnt mean you will get suspended from driving. you get suspended if the penalty (for example is) for the offence is 6+ points AND being suspended. hope that made sense.

i just remember, i got pulled over for taking off at a set of lights a little too fast, about 4 months ago, at the time (and still am) on the 12 month 0 point thing. i think he was going to give me a ticket until he did a license check and said he wouldn't give me a fine. but gave the vehicle i was driving a defect,

although the cops did say i won't get a fine, is it all possible that you still could receive one within the 12 months?

I was reused bail twice then was released, although there was alittle more to the story. 45km's an hour and over these days IS instant loss of licence, they make you sign a form that clearly statethat you are aware of the fact your licence has been suspended on the spot. My inccident was near 2 years ago now and im sure it hasn't been changed to a lighter punishment.

Mine was about 5 or so years ago, i never lost my license on the spot. I was also allowed to drive until i received my notice of suspension ( it was almost 6months after the offence i called the RTA and asked what was going on) 2 days later i got the letter of suspension for 6 months and $1515 later

Well it didn't really matter because i was shown the reading so that was not my defense . I really had no defense i got 12 months loss of license and a 3k fine . Put the cost of a lawyer on top of that and bieng a self employed contractor which cost me about 6months unemployment .

but was still lucky the penalty was a max of 2 years jail or a $32,000 fine

breaches are usually issued at over 45km/h?????????????????????????????
dumbest thing i have ever read in this forum, if you believe that good luck to you! i will probably see you wrapped around a tree next weekend.
its comment to be breached being 10-15kmh over. which is fair enough, its so easy and intelligent to just follow the speed limit (you got a license agree that you would follow speed limits).
cops usually wont care if you make an excuse up like that (being real of not), but they are at times simpathetic and let you go but remind you to try to follow the rules. usually they give you a fine on the spot i would have thought, maybe its different in your state.
