Unhappy Looks like 2015 Falcon will be FWD

Years of heritage could be axed with the Ford design chief all but confirming the end of the traditional rear-drive Falcon.

If Ford can't build both front wheel drive and rear wheel drive platforms, particularly taking into account Lincoln and Mustang then they really are a useless bunch!

Coon most likely to be AWD! Awesome!

Funny how drive always put a negative spin on good news...

Yawn.
Slow news day with nothing to report.
NO ONE can speculate what ANY car will be in 2015.

I can't see AWD being a bad thing. Aslong as the body is still Falcon and not Taurus. Oh also the I6 would be nice too.

But people have said an AWD F6 would be awesome and I agree so we may get that chance yet.

A wheel with only two rear wheels, good luck fitting the I6 in a transverse setup, lol.

Cool

L6 been done in OZ before
2.6 litre six cylinder the same motor they had
in the P76 and Marina !973/75
fitted longitude driving the rear wheels

and in the Austin Kimberly/Tasman
2.6 litre six cylinder fitted transversely
driving the front wheels
IE East/West and all built in Sydney
1970/72
so it has been done before
here in Australia

Why if you can have AWD in a large car
why cant you just do away with the FWD parts
wouldnt that just leave you with a RWD car
or am I missing something
also the Yanks have had 400 CI motors in FWD
for the last 40 years

then I once looked under the bonnet of a Cadilac limo
and it had a 4 cylinder sitting sideways
so who knows
John

The AWD in my Tezza seems to be done with a longitudinal I6.

The AWD in the previous gen Holden was done with a longitudinal V6/V8.

The AWD in my mate's Subura may be a Flat 4, but it is longitudinal.

The AUDI AWD layouts all appear to be longitudinal.

Theory that longitudinal layouts mean no AWD now successfully debunked....

Yes but your Tezza, like the commodore is a RWD design with AWD added not a FWD design.
The subarus asre AWD design only and have a short fat engine.

The push to FWD is fianacial only so it it does happen it will be a whole new design regime.

Bet you can't name one FWD car in the USA that's had
a 400 CID V8 in it continuously for the past 20 years.

That's not the problem.
When Jay Mays says AWD, he means FWD based AWD
that's the problem.

Cadillac Eldorado

They dont have 400CID V8's anymore, but they went front wheel drive in 1967 with a 427 V8 and had a 368 CID V8 up until 1985.

Anyway, thats off topic and completely irrelevant here anyway.

Why is it so hard for people to understand that an AWD Falcon will be based on a FWD Taurus with a transversely mounted engine limited to sending only a small fraction of power to the rear wheels?? Hello understeer, goodbye V8's.

Where is this currently unavailable high performance AWD platform supposedly going to come from, and what other vehicles is it gong to underpin?

Anyone who thinks an AWD Falcon is good news from a perfomance perspective is dreaming.

Taurus Platform must be just about up for replacement, considering that i'm fairly sure its a 12 year old volvo platform......
