Default silver green 2002 focus

I am after more information from members regarding my son's focus. The car yard reckons that it is normal for a modern car to surge in revs when changing up gears. Com'on guys and gals; is this normal for a manual 1.8 2002 focus to do? The other site of this car yard said it had something to do with the alternator not keeping a constant voltage flow to the sensors. Is there anybody out there that can categorically deny that the surge is normal or has anything to do with electrics.
Regards
Norm

Hey Norm, my manual 1.8 2003 focus doesn't do this. Although I'm not mechanically inclined I'd be "googling" the problem to see if there is any information out there for it. I'd then be maybe taking the car to another mechanic for a once over.

Not quite sure of the exact problem you're talking about norm. Might need some more explanation.

The US Focus' had an "issue" with what they describe as "hanging revs" .... which was the revs staying high for a second or two after the gear change. But my understanding was that it was related to minimizing emissions and the US EGR system (exhaust gas recirculation). My lay mans explanation...it holds revs momentarily to ensure the fuel is fully burnt and not dumped into the exhaust system. So the dealer may have a point

Yours is a very early Focus, so this may be the issue, but hanging revs doesn't sound like a "surge" in revs that you are describing.
