Talking Rats nest on wheels ??

Cops stop rats' nest on wheels

Updated 28 minutes ago
Two rats jumped out when the officers lifted the bonnet

Two rats jumped out when the officers lifted the bonnet and several others ran off. (Victoria Police: )

Map: Ararat 3377

Victoria Police officers got a nasty surprise when they opened the bonnet of a car in Ararat, in central Victoria last week.

The officers were taking part in a vehicle safety testing course and pulled over a car that appeared to be unroadworthy. The front bumper was held on with duct tape.

The officers inspected the bumper and then lifted the bonnet and was shocked to see two rats jump out.

Police managed to grab another rat by the tail and three more scurried back out of sight.

They had made a nest under the bonnet which was littered with grass and weeds.

The news got worse for the owner, when police found his rear tyre was worn down to the steel belts.

The tyre was changed on the spot and the man from Stawell was given seven days to fix the other problems with the car.

Leading Senior Constable Mark Wood, who runs the testing course says he has seen a lot of cars in different conditions but this one was a first.

what a joke!!

This owner typifies exaclty why annual roadworthy/ pink slip inspections - whilst a pain in the butt - are necessary for the general non-enthusiast population.

What do you reckon the rest of the car would be like once you got it up on a hoist?

All I can say is What the F...

I'd feel sorry for the mechanic that hoists the car up, looks under it and has rats jump on his face.
Imagine the shock!

My favorite place to keep grass is under my bonnet! Especially on the exhaust manifold

The irony of the unkempt nature of the vehicle and the fact it is a toyota has been lost on people?

No it hasn't

Now we know why those owners are jumping so high in the 'oh what a feeling' ads.

They're trying to escape the rats

And how will this stop people like him, driving unroadworthy cars? There will always be people that'll jump behind the wheel of a car they've just fired up after years of sitting

Please read the manual carefully, as the these manufacturers spent millions of dollars making sure it is perfect.....Now why are there so many problems with my car, when I follow the instructions to the letter?....Answer, majority rules round here

Well not really because he has to take it to have its pink slip every year hence it cant sit for years unless its unregistered and the story didnt say it was. Nothing will ever stop every unroadworthy car being on the road but a lot less if they have to be tested every year. As above I can't imagine why the cop tried to catch the rat.

if you park in a farm shed, the rats will move in straight away, as the engine is a warm spot to be, and its out of the weather too.

evidence?
ratting without a license?
saving it from being flattened on the highway?

If rats can get past an airworthy check

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2...section=justin

they might just be smart enough to get past a roadworthy.

Annual RWC will just get more old cars off the road, but sadly 99% of people here would not care about that... More police inspections like this one is whats needed, or more pointedly, real punishment for driving such rubbish. Why does he still have a license, should be gone on the spot for 12 months. That would start to fix the problem.
