Most should do below 35%. Some make you sign an agreement

Yes, very much so. Certain colour cars would look better with a slight orange or blue tinge in the tint. Midnight Express tint from Tint-A-Car is pure black.

You can get 20% (or lower), but the warranty will only apply at that one store where it was fitted.

I've had 35% and 20% but driven cars from 5% - 35%, and 20% is the way to go if you value your privacy.

I hear that on back doors and rear window you can have as dark as you want. 35% only applys to the front door windows. While the front can only have a strip across the top.

Is this all true?

That was the case when i got my last car done. They did 35% on the front two windows and 25% on the back two and back screen. They said thats what they do all the time and it would look good. It didn't. See below, I ended up going somewhere else to get the fronts done darker.

i had a bit of a laugh a week or two after i got my eb. I was outside looking at it thinking about what mods i was going to do. and thought i've always been meaning to get my other cars tinted in the past so i'll do that.

Then i realised it was already done lol and bloody dark to. Even with the sunroof backing slid back you can only just see in.
If i had to get mine done i'd get side windows done the same and the back window and the top of the windscreen done darker.

Here is the current standard for vehicles in Vic.
http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rd.../0/VSI2web.pdf
It basically states that any window used by the driver to obtain a view of the road or other road users must not go below 35% light transferrence.

I wonder, by law, are you supposed to do a head check before changing lanes that requires you to look through the windows on the rear doors? If so, then by that the only windows on a wagon/SUV that you could go below 35% would be the cargo area side windows, as the rear window is also used to view other road users.

I know I've never gone below 35% on any car I've owned and never found it to be lacking in its effectiveness.
Edit..
Just found this with regard to drivers field of view, which makes the above statement mean you can go below 35% on the rear doors

Well finally had my tint done. I ended up going to express tinting in underwood brisbane.
I decided on 20% all round (not windscreen ofcourse) It looks hot.

Well can't seem to upload a dam pic.

This "fader" tint seems to be all the rage in Newcastle at the moment,

(p.s. if the car belongs to a FF member I hope you don't mind it being used as a sample!)

Yes car colour makes a difference. I have black BA XR6, wife has white 2000 camry, her interior is medium grey, mine is black. We have exactly same 3M darkest legal tint and it looks a lot darker on hers due to contrasting with the white paint.

Lol, the funny part is that the driver's and passenger's door windows don't even have tint on them. It's just the rear section (for obvious reasons).

It was a very silly statement.

I'm picking up a brand new 50th Nitro as well on the weekend and will need to get the windows done. Can you please send me a pic and let me know how much it was?

Thanks!
