Default Alternator wiring problems.

I just completed a engine swap from 1.6 to 2L on my escort and found that the alternators are different and of the three cables that fit into the 1.6L alternator i can only find two of the three spots where it fits on the 2L alternator. can anybody help with the pysical location of the plugs on the back of the alternator thanks.

one wire will be your charge wire (to your battery) and without looking at it I'd say one wire will be your excitor wire (to turn the altenator on) and the other wire will be your charge indicator light.

youll need to work out which is which, all you really need is the charge wire (the one that gets bolted down with the nut) and the excitor wire (comes on 12 volts with igniton on) with car running off idle around 1500 rpm you should see 13.8 to 14.3 volts at the battery.
