It would be nice if Ford Aust could have a positive export story..

HOWEVER, what is the AUD like to local currencey?? No point exporting if you can't make money &/or can't have a selling price that works locally in Thailand..

Usually around 29.5 THB = 1.00 AUD
Maybe it ended up there after a big one like Hangover 2.
I wish Asias protectionism wasn't so aggresive, it makes us their servants in the marketplace.

I doubt Ford would want to after what happened last time. They were all geared up to export to Thailand when the Thai's introduced a big tax to directly make the Territory uncompetitive. There's nothing from stopping them from making up some other new tax to kill it off again.

Not really. You have a light truck based SUV for carting your family around (about 40 people)... then you have the more premium Territory for those in Thailand who can afford better. If Ford worded it like you just did... it'd be ********.

I wish our government let them know who the first world country is with AAA finance rating and tax all their imports. Might hurt for a bit till they get the picture.

Of course Ford, Toyota, Mazda, and others would cry foul... but it might be what's needed. I mean... isn't Australia allowed to exports it's goods? Haven't we shown them favour and support by importing theirs freely?

Alex, Mazda built rotary kingys in Japan...pinched off the net below

Quote:
Some HJ series Premier bodies were assembled by Mazda in Japan, which fitted with the company's rotary engine.[11] The car, manufactured between 1975 and 1977 sold as the Mazda Roadpacer was quite heavy and the rotary engine of the time was severely underpowered.[12] To compensate for the lack of performance, Mazda endowed the car with a myriad of electrical gadgets, thus making the performance even worse.
