Default Defected Vehicle - what happens after 21 days?

So as a few of you would know, SICXC is kinda' grounded (still hoon it around base to fulfill my cravings of course) but since they required a blue slip to get the defect sticker of the XC, a lot of work had to be done to get it ready, and it's recently ticked over the 21 days they give you to fix it all. Went to the cop shop this arvo and the guy there couldn't tell me what happens after the 21 day period, so do any of you know?
Cheers
Matt

Depends on state.

If over the time ... it may actually have to go over the pits at RTA and they give the yay or nay.

It's in Vic, would it be best to just go in and cancel the rego?

I believe it is suspended, once you present the RWC they will resume the rego, but you will lose what time it has been off the road off the rego.

I believe that in vic you can not re reg a vehicle if you have outstanding fines or road worthy issues

they flag the car with the vin # etc

might be best to get the roady issues fixed and get it back on the road

Jason

***edit**** you cant sell it either or get new rego

Hi. Years ago a mate copped a defect and when it wasn't removed the cops came round to make sure he wasn't driving it (and collect the plates) but when they saw that he was half way through an engine change the said he could have a couple more weeks before they came back. Cheers MD

What's holding you up from getting the defect cleared? If it's just steering components I thought you could get that fixed pretty quickly.

Hah, I fixed the defects within a week, took it to the Mechanics and found out the cop ticked the box where i needed to get a Blue slip, so after he did a check over to tell me what i would need to get done before the blue slip, i got a list of A LOT of things to fix. I can only work on it on the weekends because of commitments after work like Rugby and Team Army, and i get paid fortnightly. I just spent easter repairing rust and replacing the entire steering system. So I'm getting there!

Don't think the cops will come and get my plates, doubt they'll come all the way out to base, then try and find me. :P

Be wary... Police only need to talk to the MPs or find an RSM and then you can also be in a bit of bother from your... employer.
Worse still if your caught driving the car on base and they find out about it... which they will. Has been known that they do random vehicle checks on base and you can find yourself banned from driving on base and even defence vehicles.

Nah already spoken to my WSM and a few sgt's, being a Vehicle Mechanic they don't relly mind, I'm only driving it to the shed and cages to either work on it or get to team army. Our RSM is BIG on vehicle checks and knows of my defect.
The MP's on the other hand... >_>

so what were you actually defected for? it seems that if you have to take more than 6 days to fix up, then it couldnt of passed the RWC with those modifications. unless you just got the RWC then changed all the stuff into it.

From experience, in NSW, the RTA sends you 1 warning letter. If you take no action, your rego is cancelled and just after that you find that you have no licence as an incentive to get the thing sorted

Ok, my car got defected just 4 months ago. You actually have 51 days. Not 21, regardless of what the defect states.

They will send you 2 reminders (after the 21st day) in fortnightly periods. On the 52nd day you rego is cancelled. When you re-rego your car, you will ALSO have to pay the stamp duty of the current value of the car.

It happened to me when I got my car defected the same day my supercharger got installed! (what luck!). Anyway it took 32 days to get the engineering & tyres changed etc, among other things. I was soo worried about going over the 21 days, i rang the police & the registration office, they all confirmed the above.

Sorry but they can. If they list to clean part of the car and find something underneath the crap, it's added to the "to do list".

Example. I was told to clean round the K-frame and they found a split weld.

Took the car down as is, just to get the list of things to do. Gave me the list, I fixed the problems. Went back and they found more. Wouldn't clear the defect until it was completely fixed.

I'm not complaining about what they did. In fact I'm glad they found it. Gave me a chance to fix a potential failure.

Just mentioning that they can and do add to a defect list.

In Vic it's a max of 7 clear days to get the listed items fixed - after that date, you cannot drive the car, unless your going to/from a place to get the issues resolved and/or to vicroads

If the defect isn't lifted within 30 days, vicroads will suspend your rego, opening you up to a $611 fine if caught driving - if after 3 months it's still not fixed, your rego will be cancelled and police can seize your number plates
