This!

Why build a 600hp show car to plod along down to Canderra then park it with some rope around it for three days.

If I was taking my car down to give it a hiding on the track I'd be towing it too.

Thats exactly my philosaphy, and my point behind it doesnt matter its birth date, brand or level of finish, its about the attitude of the people in side.

Like I said the drive to the event is often more important than the event its self.

And I'll let you in on a secret about me, I love cars, I love building cars, I'm not such a fan of driving.

BUT my wife loves driving, I'm happy to be a passanger and just take it all in

Nothing real unusual in that, it IS that time of year after all.
The thing that struck me after seeing so many on the road (must have seen 20-25 from Wahroonga - Gosford interchange) was that all bar one of these cars were riding on the back of flatbed trucks, or being towed.
It got me wondering as to why this is???
Is it that owners of these cars, no longer 'trust' their vehicles (or themselves) to make the distance? Not wanting to deal with the potential arguments of defective vehicles? Being a double demerit period would no doubt weigh on some minds.
Are the owners concerned about fellow road users targeting their vehicles for unwanton attention? Or worried about their pride & joy being damaged by poor roads / stonechips etc?

Are the days of the 'road trip' whereby you & a few of your mates would jump in a car, & simply drive a few hundred (or thousand) k's to attend a motoring event still here? or have they gone the way of leaded petrol, & drive in movies?

How far have you driven(or trailored / towed your pride & joy) to attend a major motoring event?
All of the above, taking a 800hp street weapon to do burn outs in and compete in it would be a good idea to have at railer to take it home on once something blows up.

I used to drive my XB to the nats every year and was always paranoid about breaking something and having to pay for a tow home. Then you also have the road side inspections by the RTA which are not too kind to loud, low and noisy cars on the road.

Elite cars get detailed for weeks before the show, so no good driving it there and getting it all dirty for the show.

The reasons for trailering a car are as varied as the cars sitting on the trailer, plus some cars are not registered and can not be road driven.

One very good example as to why some 'trailer' the spoils of their countless hours of trouble & toil..

Before...

After...

Heartbreaking.

Thats terrible, I hope no one was hurt.

I can understand why some people trailer their car, but trailers are not immune from problems either
.
This one got a sway up & flipped.

As mentioned ... sometimes there's a decent risk in trailering the vehicle there as well.

And then you have enthusiasts like XF84 .... from WA .... brings on a mint and highly modified XH ute ... chcek his build thread ... the epic travels he has had in it ... and his pilgramage (sp?) to Summernats as well from the west.

I think the journey is more enjoyable than the event itself ... especially if you have to cross the entire country to get there.

Mine no show car but when I drive it, I take the precations that I do when riding a bike. So I'm always trying to read the traffic, double checking that person is going to stop at the intersection. Keeping an eye on my rear view mirror as I'm pulling up at a set of lights.
Try and keep my car in it's own space on the HWY, unless of cause I'm cruising with others. Then I'm either somewhere in thw middle or out in the lead, and can trust the others I cruise with as they all love their best as well.

Not really a car show trip but we went to a show while we were away

Any how Friday morning about 10 I swung by and picked up Frank & his lovely wife Veronica, from there we headed over to Cords to pick up mick & Gav before heading down the south coast for the weekend,

Here's a few photos of this part of the weekend

Loading up at the bottle shop

On the road

We shot down over the Sea Cliff Bridge and I'll post a video up tomorrow after that we stopped at a little RSL for lunch and got a Rock Star park

Just a car we saw while driving

On arriving at Bendalong we had a few welcom drinks that turned into a few more

The next day (Saturday) Ann told us that her Uncle was at an Australia Day car show about 20mins back up the coast so we thought we would check it out

We met some great people that seemed really happy that we turned up.

From there it was a feast of fish n chips and fresh prawns at the Sussex inlet marina and back to the cabins for a fantastic BBQ dinner with 45mm thick stakes and Lamb (thanks frank)

I'll load up other photos and post more later
