Default Diesel shudder when turning off.

Good morning all,

After the dealer tried to 'make things right' with me with due to their dodgy service they told me they would clean the intake hardware and do a diesel injector service 'on the house'.

Ok. So now I've had the car back for a week. I now have another concern. EVERY time the car is turned off it violently shakes from the engine.

The best way to describe it is like you have a manual car with a dodgy ignition off switch so you stall it to turn off the engine.

It feels like crap, and my wife noticed it on her own right away as well.

Every time. Without fail.

This used to happen prior to the 60k service debacle, say perhaps once a month if that.

I know some people have mentioned they have experienced the same thing with their cars. What I want to know, is to what extent? and did certain conditions make it more or less common?

If I were to ever sell the car anyone else would feel the same shake and question it. Prior to this, the car would turn off with little fanfair... much the same as a petrol car.

Oh... and they replaced the leather factory wheel under warranty with a cheaper vinyl wrapped one because apparently Ford 'ran out of the correct one'... funny that, and no, they will not be getting away with that either.

My main convern is this vibration...

When will this crap bloody end?? Car ownership shouldn't be this bloody hard.

Cheers,

Jason

My TDCI does not shudder at switch off but at start it starts with an almost violent shudder..I put it down to maybe a tired battery or alternator or starter motor.
Mines also dumping huge clouds of black smoke out the back under heavy acceleration.
My next service comes up in 5000k,s (6 weeks for me) so I,ll mention this stuff.

With your car unless its under warranty I suggest you take it to a proper diesel specialist.

I would be thinking something to do with the injector servicing ? Sorry to hear of all the problems you're having mate, my son had similar issues a few years back with a brand spanker Hyundai i30 diesel, complete clutch, pressure plate and flywheel overhaul @ 1700kms, serious water leak in boot, started the car one morning to a cloud of blue smoke, clutch started chattering again @ 5,000 kms Hyundai's response, we'll sort it for you you have 5 years warranty It's not what you expect when you buy a new car and especially a diesel for what you hoped would be reliable engine longevity :( I'm guessing you will be wanting to get rid of it by now, I went to the Hyundai dealership with my son and asked them to consider buying it back (which they did), we lost a couple of grand on the purchase price, they put it back up for sale in their yard, it sat for nearly 6 months before they eventually sold it, saw it around a couple of times with some old fella driving it. A few months later it was back in the lot of the Hyundai yard again Best decision we ever made was biting the bullet and getting rid of the lemon

Yes mine used to do that quite a bit and now rarely does.

I really don't know what made it better however, I've done quite a few mods on my car and up at 138,000km now.

Does it make a difference if you let it idle for a bit before turning it off?

Seized vanes on the turbo I reckon, dumping huge clouds of black smoke out the back of a diesel means too much fuel.

If you don't have the air to match the fuel (problem with turbo) you have too much fuel going in.

Mates D40 Navara was doing it, the vanes siezed up and they wouldn't move, so the turbo exhaust housing was essentially fixed in a fully open position - lots of smoke as its dumping in fuel when the turbo hasn't spooled up because it won't until later RPM.

No engine light either.

I would guess they haven't plugged the Electronic Throttle Body back in. It needs to shut on key off to limit shutdown shake

Diesels don't have throttle bodies though?

I am afraid not true.

All Rangers have them for EGR control and shut-down Shake.
If the car has a DPF then you need an ETB to run rich and regenerate.

The ETB works reverse, in that it is normally open and then powered shut when required, but yes modern Common Rail Diesel can be fitted with ETB's.
