With so many of us confined to home, image what would occur if the internet stopped working, even just for a few hours. Pandemonium!

Well we are not all yet but definitely heaps. I'd say it would have already collapsed if they did nothing to beef up capacity and free up load.

I've had no issues with internet so far. Constant 40mbps+

Yup. No issues with the internet even though left wing governments keep telling us our internet is third world rate. How much porn do these politicians need to download???

47Mbps download
18Mbps upload

Streaming services have been asked to cut quality to keep the lights on as well as NBN being directed to give up more capacity for free to the retailers. And we are nowhere near total lockdown demand yet.

I have had no issues but I have heard many many more negative comments on NBN for every positive.

I live on the same street as both the exchange and node so explains why I'm all good.

Don't take it as any endorsement of what we have because it's not. I'm just grateful mine is not **** as it is for others.

Rubbish!

All those odd jobs that needed doing starting back from around 2000 would finally get done!

We would be healthier due to sleeping at 9pm.

We would improve our relationship with family and friends.

We would lose weight.

Power bills will drop.

Hell, we would have to re-teach ourselves the art of reading a book!

The case of the Perth man who died today is quite concerning. Over 70, no previous respiratory conditions, had no symptoms, fainted, went to hospital, tested positive, put into isolation ward, 25 hours later he's dead!

Scary to know that even though he was admitted to hospital, he could not be saved. And that's while the hospital was nowhere near being overwhelmed with Covid-19 cases. Imagine what it would be like IF it ever get's to the stage where the hospitals are being overwhelmed with cases.

Scary that Perth suburbs are still running like normal. Every time I did a tp check run until yesterday I found the shopping centres are almost as busy as normal. (small shops shut but everyone still going to the supermarket and fruit and veg shop.)
Many couples and/or friends walking together almost hand in hand and not picking up the clues in the tape 'X's or lines on the floor the shops have done about distancing from strangers either.

I'm not a fearful guy, spent too many recent years wishing I was dead anyway. But what really gets my goat is the ban on cartons of 500ml cans of oettinger. Apparently they're banned because they're too big
at 12L beer (even though you can buy 30 can blocks of 375ml cans that are 11.5L - but I don't like those beers ;-) ) E: In WA we're banned from buying more than 1L spirits, 3 bottle of wine or 1 carton of beer since tuesday. All the cheap bourbons are mostly sold out already despite the limit but that's OK, I don't drink that and plenty of preferred options. But the oettinger cans is a kick in the guts especially if the bottleshops close and I have none to ration for a month or more

There's only slightly more parking spots than normal so plenty of people about. When I went to the bottle shop some guy was chatting away talking the cashiers ear off like it was normal every day and wouldn't F 'off.

There was a warehouse/logistics/forklift course I signed up to a month ago and they keep calling and texting me to confirm I'm still going to rock up to the classroom on Monday. I don't know what to do as it's a private training academy that already has my bank account debit authority so if I cancel they'll probably still charge me. I can't see the point as there's going to be no work on anymore for a while (any employment would be for experienced over someone that just did a course).

Just get the fork lisense for now. Jobs will always be there, especially for those with a qualification. Think in about 6 or so months time, jobs in warehouses may be in short supply and guess what! You have the necessary quals to get a job there!

Don't let other peoples problems get you down, it's your future, not theirs.

I work in Warehousing, specifically Food Storage, and we are always after staff to fill all positions. It attracts all sorts of people being that you generally need no qualifications apart from LF Forklift Ticket, so we get heaps of lazy pricks cos' HR employs them. The lazy ones get shown the door quick smart, as it can be physically demanding at times, but nowhere like being a physical labourer, and the money is great too for non-skilled labour.

Once you get your ticket, it opens up many other doors, go for it.

So one needs to ask, what are the treatment protocols for Covid-19? Given the virus causes respiratory issues, how is the hospital treating it?

Given my previous bouts of pneumonia and my experience with hospitals, I'd only go to hospital if I'm prepared to die there.

An acquaintance works on the floor at a large public hospital in NSW, south-western Sydney. The CV cases there, are placed immediately in dedicated ward(s) and it seems disproportionate attention is being paid to their recovery. What he’s described, gives me confidence that at least for the present a COVID-19 infected person’s prospects in Australian capital city, are pretty good.

Unrelatedly, there’s something bitterly funny about how for so many years the West derided Eastern Europe for its heavy-handed authority; restrictions on personal freedoms, institutionalised everything, surveillance of Everyman, shortages of what “we” deemed essential and a toothless currency.

Now - all that is missing for us, is the fear which made people hang a portrait of the incumbent prominently in their house. Maybe that’s coming.

I'll be the first to admit I've been fairly critical of Scomo over the past fortnight, much of that from frustration and I dare say a bit from just shear fear of how this is going to unfold and whilst I doubt I'd ever hang his picture on my wall, I'm bloody thankful that he's at the helm right now in many ways.

I have not checked the veracity of this article, which is apparently a transcription of an interview with a senior doctor in a Cremona hospital.

https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2020-...-dies/12090912

A notable point is the stated observation:
Quote:
...What we're seeing is that those who aren't surviving this are those who have many co-morbidities. They're elderly patients who suffer from other illnesses and other problems.

The cafe across the road from work closed down this morning, she laid off all her staff, landlord is pestering her for rent but no customers anymore.

I'm trying to convince her to ditch the cafe and come back in a coffee van and park it outside the cafe

$5000/month rent for this little tiny spot when the offices that are twice the size in the immediate vicinity are half as much rent.

$60K ought to buy you a nice second hand coffee van you can stand inside, sans the rent, you just may require council permit.

She's got to sell circa 1100 coffees before she makes the rent and that's not including her costs on that $4.50 I pay on the coffee.

Mate of mine has a restaurant at St Kilda and a pizza store out west. Even though there were still plenty of people around he shut the doors yesterday at St Kilda, but his pizza joint is running kinda normal, a bit quieter.

A lot of councils rip it right up cafes for using space out the front for outdoor seating . It must be almost impossible to survive in the good times let alone now. Local government are bottom dwellers in my book.

I am still one of those fossils that if I see made in Australia I try to buy it- hence why I drive a Falcon FGX XR8 when I can afford to drive a Merc etc.

But hard to find stuff in Australia that is made in this country.

I’m not a gambling man but I’d throw a good bit of coin on the fact the US is spending as much time finding out who and how all this occurred and god help those who have blood on their hands. I’m sure Johnson Atoll as well as other locations have plenty of lovely return gifts if they want to play this game.
