Default AU III Fairmont Wagon....PLEASE

G'day, I'm a newie. I have a really nice EF Fairmont Wagon and it's immaculate, XR8 wheels, white with tinted windows and still going strong but I'm gettin' itchy for an upgrade and would love to get into a BA series Fairmont Wagon but found out that after the AU III they don't make 'em. The best you can do is a Futura which is pretty much an XT with P/Windows in the front and Alloys.....big deal.

So the only way I can get my Fairmont interior....(I love all those creature comforts) is to go for a Territory TS, all i'd need is a 2WD, or a AU III Fairmont wagon.

Can anybody help me find a good source to find one of these animals? I've tried all the Carpoint, CarSales.coms, trading Post Drive.com etc and theres not many around. I found an absolute Ripper,White (it has to be white) 16" alloys the right price but it's got a 5 LTR V8 in it.

Any help or ideas would be really appreciated

Jimbo

Get the 5.0 V8 - fuel economy is not too far from the I6 anyway, unless you are lead footed ALL the time. I used to get 400 out mine, mixed city/highway driving.

400! Id beat my car into a metallic pulp if I got 400.

Your only bet it to look high and low, and dont rush into something.

I wouldn't think 400 odd kays for combined city/hwy is too bad at all for an 8. Obviously also depends on the mix of city/hwy, and just how low you're running the tank to get that 400!

400 is off around 55 litres. Mix is around 50/50, but it's a Canberra mix, so would be almost highway driving for Sydney-siders.

So a touch less than 14l/100 out of a V8 with plenty of city driving in the mix. That's very reasonable.

It took me a couple of months to find my AUIII Fairmont Wagon after my EF one was written off a couple of years ago. I was the same - I wanted a Fairmont wagon, and would have bought a BA if they made them.

They're not easy to find. I don't think they made many. Most of the ones I did find had heaps of kms on them.

I ended up flying to Brisbane from Canberra to bid on mine at the Pickles auction up there. I was lucky to get one with 33k and 12months factory warranty on it. Drove it home the next day.

Use the email alert systems on Pickles and some of the other car websites, and be patient.
