Anyone know of a good online one?

I'm trying to work out how horrible my fuel consumption is.

I've travelled 362k's I know that.
Currently, my computer (on the BA that is) says that I'm doing 14.2 L/100KM which is really good (usually I'm at 15L/100KM). However, I want to work out just how accurate this is.
Also, I havent completely got an empty tank. Its fairly close, however this makes a big difference.

You don't *need* to completely empty the tank. It would be better if you could but can still do it without. When you fill the car, fill it completely so that you physically cannot get any more in. Then drive. I'll assume you have done this already.

Now go and fill the car up completely, and take note of how many litres it took. Then simply divide how many litres it took by how many km you travelled (362 in your case) and multiply by 100. At a guess you have probably used about 51 litres.

That is pretty much the only way to do it.

Forget the car computer, it is not even remotely accurate most of the time.

Fill the car, note odometer reading.
Drive.
Fill car again, note odometer and bowser readings.
Take original odometer reading from current reading to derive distance travelled.
Divide litres used by distance travelled and multiply result by 100.

Final result is litres per 100km.

fuel usage (l/100km) = fuel used (l) / distance traveled (km) * 100.

or you could just fill up, then drive 100 km's and fill up again.

If you have access to a C++ complier you can compile this and run it from the DOS (c prompt....

I just wrote it, it is very basic, but accurate.

Is there something wrong with your car or do you have a heavy right foot? I routinely get 420-450k's out of a tank (usually using 91RON) in an XR8 in Sydney traffic. Last time I looked, I was doing 13.6L/100.

I use the method already described in that I fill the tank completely up and zero the odometer, that way it doesn't matter when you fill up next, you can get a reasonably accurate measurement based on how many L's it takes to fill the car right back up again vs how many k's you travelled since your last fill.

lol yeah I know, I was just commenting on how you went to the effort to write that. I think it's cool. It's just that a non-car nut might look at you like you have 3 heads if you told them you wrote that. Well the ones I know anyway. No offence intended mate.

I know theres something wrong with my car. Just that the stupid Ford people dont think theres anything wrong. The mechanic I went to thought similar aswell.

I'm thinking its the O2 sensor, so I might buy a new one just to see.

"Ohhh... I wouldnt worry about that. That sounds about right" the guy at Ford told me.

I can tell that it cant be right. Barely anyone on here gets what I get in their I6 BA. I'm getting similar readings to that of an XR6T (probably just a fraction less).

Ok, so I just filled up 55.32 litres into the car.

Having travelled 362km's I worked this out:

fuel usage (15.3l/100km) = fuel used (55.32l) / distance traveled (362km) * 100.

So, my BA's computer seems to be out by 1L/100km which makes things even WORSE!

AAAHHHH! :(

My 3.3L Xd gets 22L/100k's with half the power of a Ba w00t.

mine comes up roughly 13.5 litres per 100km.
with my driving which is flat to the floor constantly. in a 10 year older car.
thats not bad.

my trip computer how ever is over 100km's out on its distance till empty.

is that with the new cam and 500 holley and flooring it everywhere? cause i get 21L/100Km from a 351 pulling a 1.8ton tank.

There is nothing wrong with your fuel consumption, it all depends on your driving style and conditions.

I drive a 2003 Futura daily to and from work in Sydney rush hour traffic.
This consists of 32sets of traffic lights, 14 roundabouts, 12 speed bumps, 2 give way signs, 2 stop signs and 50,70,90 and 40km/h speed zones all in the 30.4km distance for the round Trip.
My average fuel consumption is 17.9ltrs/100k at an average speed of 32km/h

Same car is used for interstate travel , Sydney to Cairns 3 or 4 times a year.
This returns on average 9.2ltrs/100k at an average speed of 92km/h
Best I ever got on one tank was 8.9ltr/100k at an average of 98km/h, this was at night, and it was cold.

(above consumption figures are calculated, the average speed is from the trip computer)

Rodp gets full marks.

I do this everytime I get into the car after filling up, take note of the kms on the trip meter, then zero it.

When I get home I multiply the number of litres I just put into the tank by 100, then divide by how many km was on the trip meter. (Consumption = Litres*100/km).

That way you can monitor your fuel usage closely.

BTW. The BA has a good feature in that once the fuel nozzle goes click, the tank is full, unlike many other types of cars.

In my BA futura I average around 10.0-10.5, depending on what half of the week it is. I drive between sydney and wollongong for work, and do a bit of suburban driving on the weekends.

Before I was highway travelling I would get around 13.5-14L/100km around the suburbs, so your fuel consumption is a bit high but not excessively. Again as it has been said above it depends on your driving style. I found up to a 1L/100km difference if I really babied it. Try taking it for a run on the highway and see what sort of consumption you get, it should be around 10ish

Geez. You must drive with a massively heavy foot. I'm reading 34km/h average speed and 13.6L/100km in an XR8!

Nope that's with a full standard cast iron 200 motor and Xf weber flooring the absolute **** through it.

I rev the motor to 5300-5500 because it simply won't rev harder and it's stock when ever me and my mates see somthing industructible we say... XDEEE

those webers are pretty thirsty when you got a lead foot. my 21L/100Km is around the suburbs with the occasional squirt. on the highway i get around 16L/100Km
