Whats the going rates on 3.7 gears for AU's? Where abouts can i get them from?

Any diff joint will have them.

The lowest I've been quoted is $220 for good second hand units, but I paid $559 for non genuine new gears. The Borg Warner stuff is another $100-150 on top of that, but if you ring around, you might be surprised what you find.

Hey mate,

Check out these guys, pretty cheap and in NSW.

They have any gears for $495 at the moment.

You have to make sure you get the right gears though, as I believe you have a standard Falcon, which means a 3.08 housing. Thus, you can't slot in a 3.45 or 3.73 BW gears, as they won't fit. You need to look for Skyline or Commodore gears I believe.

Check up on it, goodluck!

LG is right. But the measurements for the housing are 7 and a half inch or 7 and 3/4 inch. IIRC, the BW gears will fit 7 and 3/4 and 7 and 1/2 housings with some modification. A place that only does diffs will be able to tell you about it though.

I put aftermarket gears in my diff for this reason. The BW were $150 dearer including the mod needed to get them into my housing.

The 3.08 LG was talking about was the stock diff ratio for the Forte, Futura and SR autos.

I may have missed something in there, but I think that's pretty much all correct.

I realise Borg Warner is the diffs used in the AU, along with almost every other car built in a long time, I just didn't take in what GK said at first, just a tad slow today

Not quite, BW make all gears to suit the full range of Falcons but there are specific diff changes through the years that need to be carefully looked at. Skyline gears are rubbish, diff guys were slotting those things in because they could get cheap used items very easily. For my money, I went BW 3.73s and they are an awesome bang for buck mod. Talk to the guys at Bosnjak engineering in Sydney (02) 9757 2133 - they'll even quote u part numbers as a courtesy out of town.

3.08 was also the ratio for the fairmont S1, but I think Ghia had a different ratio.

XR gears should be a direct fit you might be better off doing what i did for $600 I picked up an XR diff complete that had done on 38 000Ks

Are they IRS? is it a big job changing from live to IRS?

So what your saying is get a complete diff from an XR6 HP 3:45 ratio non-IRS and it should be a complete swap over?

yes it bolts straight in just make sure you change the speedo gear. the fairmont ghia had a 3.23, only the XR had 3.45

Easy is things that are simply bolted... harder is when i'd have to cut and shut steel frame work... (although not that hard, as i've done it all before : )
