Default A day off aswell? time to do some cosmetic mods

So I had a day off yesterday, and thought I'd do some cosmetic mods to the car. Kudos to AnthonyTDCi's "On my day off I.." thread for giving the idea.

Started off by getting paint mixed from autobarn, some K&H plasti-primer, clear top coat, wet 600,1200 and 120 grit. Idea was to colour code the side strips on the focus. Well here are the pics:

How it started off as:

Masked, Sanded with wet 600 grit and then primed (I should've tried taking the side mouldings off but couldn't be bothered so just masked it hahaha):

Painted:

End Result with clear top coat:

Went experimentation overboard and decided to do the chrome grill as well. Figured since I was thinking of getting the carbon fibre grill off EP, might as well try paint it black first and see if will last or just chip off. So here are the results

Sanded with wet 120 grit, primed and then painted black:

End Results of the painted grill:

Well thought I'd share if people were interested in doing it as well. Shall update if there are any peeling of the paint.

Looks awesome mate. One of those budget mods that improve the look of the car tenfold. Bad luck for anyone that wanted to read the newspaper that day though

Check this thread:

Post #11 talks a bit about the bodykit.

I was keen on having black with chrome accents on the body and some nice machined wheels, but thinking about going all black

thanks for the compliments

Anthony: yepp check out the other thread. the guys at SSV done a good job so recommend them. There's great looking kits on EP site but just hesitant getting bodykit parts shipped from overseas. Might break and go through the whole insurance process with EP which takes like 6 weeks or something

819_Fly: yehhh do stealth mate!! will look awesome

anyways if I have time tomorrow might take a full side on view of what the side strips really look like with direct sunlight against it.

focusrally do u mean standard spray can black? If so, then no. Autobarn can mix all different paint colours to match your car. All you need to give them is the colour code for your focus. My one was PM5 for black saphire (call up your ford service center and tell them what colour name you have and they'll give you the code). The autobarn I went to charged 30bucks to mix into a spray can, and 17 for a tin of touch up paint.

And no actual reason to leave it on the car while i painted it. Just didn't know how to actually get it off. If I had to do it again I would recommend to actually take it off so you can get a good spray over the entire thing

Hope that answers what you were asking? Maybe I interpreted the question wrong..haha

Ya know, for some reason I don't think you'd be able to get around in one of them without getting noticed

to my memory it was 1400 from tempe tyres. ( http://www.tempetyres.com.au/product...t=&part_no=945 ). It wasn't the rims I came in for. I actually went there to try and get some Lenso wheels but they said it wouldn't fit the focus. So I actually came out with something I didn't plan to by. Looking back I actually glad I chose these ones instead. More of a Euro look

Hi mate, S+S auto industries in Midvale are probably the best in Perth to get paint and advice from, they'll have the right primers and be able to mix the paint spot-on. Otherwise most Auto One stores can mix paint.
