Default five mattresses & an XD Falcon

From the people that gave you a ute in the water comes the next thrilling installemnt five mattresses & an XD Falcon

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/roa...-1225830694507

THIS motorist pictured on a Melbourne freeway with five mattresses strapped to the car roof could be Victoria's stupidest driver.

But police say he might not have broken any laws.

Sharon Jones and her husband were driving on EastLink when they saw the car about 2pm on Sunday.

"We've seen that sort of thing in Thailand before but didn't think it would happen here," Mrs Jones said.

The mattresses were piled over a metre high on the car, which Mrs Jones said was driven by an elderly man.

"He was driving along like it was his Sunday afternoon drive," she said.

Police confirmed the driver might not have been doing anything wrong.

It is difficult to see in this photo whether this load fits within safety dimension limits or not," road safety legislation expert Sen-Sgt John Gibson said.

Road safety laws say the maximum height of a vehicle is 4.3m and a load was not to project more than 15cm to either side.

But Sen-Sgt Gibson said the driver could be in breach of laws related to how the load was secured.

what a goose...

though it is very interesting that it may not even be illegal...

maybe I should go and buy myself a rusty ol' XD/XE and get into delivering matresses... I reckon you could do a King Size on an XD/XE/XF wagon... such a long flat roof there... ;)

As long as the load was securely and correctly tied down I don't see the issue here.

Would it of been different had he used roof racks?

Slow news day methinks.

At least he hasn't got his arm out the window holding on to the mattresses. "I got it... I got it..."

meh, seen it all before... from my parents of all people... XY falcon with roofracks, 3 wardrobes piled up and tied on... Cops followed us for a few k's, but turned around when they saw the load wasn't going anywhere... Another time they brought two huge old lister upright stationary engines back from Kyogle to near Toowoomba in the VG Val ute, dad had to put chocks of wood between the leaves on the back to stop it completely bottoming out, got the engines home though... lol, mind you, these days you'd nearly get raped for trying such shenanigans.

My grandparents, mum, aunty and uncle use to drive from Rylstone to Singleton (good 2.5 hour drive) in there old XW-XY sedan and their dog use to ride up on the roof racks. Not tied on or anything but it loved to just sit there for the entire trip. They reckon they got lots of looks as they drove through town and were well known lol. Would of been funny to see. The dog never fell off.

Just be careful not to run over one of those mattresses if they fly off!

Two AFF members have been spotted carrying a queen mattress on the roof of a Falcon wagon held on by one arm each out the window... I certainly wasn't involved, but it went about 30k's including over the Story Bridge and didn't fly off... So I heard.
