A HOLDEN Barina driver outpaced police this morning, leading them on a 130km long pursuit.

Officers tried to pull over the car travelling south on the Hume Freeway, near Winton, in connection to the theft of fuel from a Wodonga service station.

But the Barina motored down the highway, forcing police to reach speeds of 160 km/h.

Stop sticks could not bring the vehicle to a halt and the chase was terminated at Clonbinane due to bad weather.

Police believe the car later struck a pole in Bundoora, Melbourne.

The male driver fled the scene of the 7am crash.

Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
