US freeway will allow drivers to do 137km/h – for a fee.

Motorists in North America will be allowed to drive legally at 137km/h – almost 20km/h more than the speed limit on most highways – if they pay to use a new toll road.

Sorry if this has been posted before Gents, but I found this pretty interesting. Good way to raise revenue in my opinion. A toll and a fee to speed.

If they built a road from here to the sunshine coast / gold coast that was specially designed for cars driving at 200km/h+ I would pay to use the safer, quicker and more efficient infrastructure.

What I won't pay for is existing toll roads deigned as tunnel-funnneling cash machines.

With toll roads not getting the patronage they desire, upping the speed limit is a good way to encourage use.

Remember this is USA and in USA public servants and "academic experts" can be held legally responsible for doing stupid things as well as the various senior law enforcement and local government managers are elected not appointed.

Huh, I never knew that... If that was the case over here highways would have foam mattresses lined either side, nationwide the maximum limit for built up areas would be 30kmh, 50kmh for highways and personal driving instructors would be mandatory with every new car sold

We pay to speed here too!
I usually average on highways a fee of $250 a year. Thats ok I think. :-)

If someone said, on freeways you can do 20 extra over the 100 or 110 limit for $250 a year would you pay?

Yes. That is $5/wk. I would pay $50/wk to be able to travel at 130 legally in QLD. I would make a profit out of it and could almost make a profit at $100/wk.

i would`nt mind paying for a higher speed limit on the condition they use the money to actually fix road and infrastructure, it ****** me off paying tolls to sit in a car park(welcome to Melbourne).
