Default Ideas for transporting Engine

Hi guys, need to transport a windsor. Looking for ideas.

My plan at the moment is to put it on a trailer with some timber blocks under the engine mounts to take the weight, and extra blocks under the back of the sump and some under the crank pulley to stop it tilting forward or back.

What are your thoughts?

Get an old tyre (no rim) and stick the sump in the middle of it, tie it down to stop it rolling over and you're done. I've transported many many motors this way with no damage.

yeah thanks for that mate, I have done that previously also but with a 2cyl, and it still ended up sitting on the sump which i'd like to avoid, and this thing would weigh double.

yep. old tyre and a couple of ratchet straps. if you are worried the sump might hit the trailer find a 4wd tyre

Yep, I use a 4x4 tyre and never touch the sump.

Thanks for the ideas guys, wouldn't have thought the tyre would stand up to the weight of the engine and would just flatten out. Very good to know.

It compresses to a point but ends up sitting on the crank pulley and the rear of the pan on the sidewalls. 4x4 tyres won't flatten out nearly as much as car tyres.
