Default Weird sighting this weekend - camera crew filming cops?

Here in Melbourne, on Saturday night, I saw something odd. I went to the supermarket near Chapel Street, Prahran, and in the car park, there seemed to be something going on. Cops had pulled over a Falcon ute (naturally), and were talking to the owner. While this was going on, someone looked like they were filming it, while another guy was holding a large mic overhead. The cops didn't seem to mind this at all? The cops I think then started to unscrew the license plate from the car. As I came out of the supermarket, everyone had disappeared - the cops, camera people, and owner, with just the ute left by itself without any plates on it.

Probably filming an episode of "the force" or another real life police show

No, it was a normal marked police car, not a highway patrol car. Besides, I think that show is long over - haven't seen a new episode in nearly a year.

There are plenty of other Police shows, some could be in the making...that's all it would be.

If it was Queensland and something to do with the "bikie" (no they're not) laws, I would surmise the cops had tipped off the media to come and make a show of something. The guy arrested for helping out at a T-shirt shop on December 9th last year (who is, incidentally, still rotting in solitary in jail awaiting a hearing) was the subject of this...the cops arrived, had a look around, had it explained to them what was going on, they were cool, they left. Shortly after this channel 7 turned up and stood around waiting, puzzling the owners, then the cops arrived and in a big publicity stunt arrested the guys for the cameras...Nice.

Probably filming one of those police action TV shows though in this case.

Takes awhile to get enough footage for an episode.
Could you imagine a show that followed a victorian cop all day?
Writing tickets for a few k's over repeatedly isn't very good pr.
There's one cop on that show bald guy with glasses he makes me sick, you see his eyes light up when he nabs someone a few k's over really seems to get his jollies off it.

The New Zealand one is pretty funny, "Police Tin Sivin" I think it's called.
Every episode there is a drunk guy with no ID that changes his name 3 or 4 times during questioning and doesn't know where he lives. Every episode!

Everyone pulled over on the inzed show seems to think it is funny - caught speeding. Funny. Drink driving. Funny. No warrant. Funny. Must have a great sense of humour over there.

There was something on ACA about drug dealers, one of the presenters was there pestering the drug dealers getting arrested, with smart *** comments.

I was hoping someone would smash her teeth in, doesn't seem like a smart idea.

That's what I noticed, especially the Asian drivers caught doing some amazingly stupid things. Laugh like a drain. However, I did read somewhere that amongst some Asian cultures, laughter is a way of showing how nervous you are, and they're not necessarily laughing at anything "funny".

One thing i've notice across ALL those reality-cop shows is that the officers very often say "be honest with me and i'll go easy on you" or some variation on that. Of course, when they own up to anything illegal, they are immediately arrested. it's extremely rare that they go "easy" on anyone (because the camera is there, they don't want to appear soft, i guess)

Officers in Australia say lots of stupid things, like "at this stage, you're under arrest". Isn't that kind of stating the obvious? Why not simply say "You're under arrest". When I go into a McDonalds drive-thru, the person doesn't say "At this stage, I can take your order". "At this stage, you may drive forward". "At this stage, you may pay for your order".
