Hi all
i have a v6 gt capri 1972 as you all know by know, just like to know all my pedals a diff height . From my clutch pedal to brake pedal there is about 20mm diff . Does anyone know hoe to fix this is it the clutch pedal to be adjusted or the brake pedal. I was told from bbs at cappalba that the rod from the brake boster get it pulled out rebuild the boster and make the rod adjustable to get the 20mm . But then i am thinking the brake pedal is on a rod pivited so it cant be moved. Has anyone got some plains . Or it the clutch pedal needs adjustment ...hows that done need info ... Help please |

The clutch pedal height is directly related to the slackness in the clutch cable.
Mine were diff heights just before my gearbpx swap exercise, and on re-install I actually measured the gap between the lock nuts on the cable at bell housing end and the plastic insert thru the bell housing for the cable. Section 7-25 of Ford Aus manual says.... Slacken the locknut and with the clutch pedal pulled onto the stop on the pedal bracket, screw the adjusting nut as necessary until there is a clearance of 0.138 to 0.144 in. (3.5 to 3.7mm) between the nut and its abutment, or until the setting guage <special tool blah blah blah>...With this setting there should be 0.5 to 0.75 in. (12.7 to 19.0mm) free pal at the pedal pad. Curiously, I found my 8-piece feeling guage set from 1980's K-Mart was exactly the right clearance gap at the lock nut end. Both brake and clutch pedals are now even height. Takes all of 5 mins and two open ended spanners/shifters..... |

just another small thought came to mind as well
with my capri (escorts the same) I found out that the clutch fork had bent & cracked, once this was fixed the pedals came up to the same height with adjustment |

Hi all
so the two nuts on the bell housung lossing up and adjust the nut till the pedal is the same height as the brake pedal . Is that what you mean.. Please advise me right or wroung.. Cheers |

that's whgat I mean. very very basic neanderthal adjustment method. Put enough tension on the inner cable via the cable housing to take up the slack.
Do pay attention to the clearance mentioned, otherwise your thrust bearing has pressure on it and prob. won't last long (or slip the clutch !!!) Then see how you go for pedal heiight. There is also a pedal stop inside the car on the steering column support bracket/box section. check this looks ok i.e. not bent or missing - simple peg that the pedal rests against iirc. |

ill give it a try today or this weekend..just to pick your brain. Does somebody need to be in the car pushing the peddal down the right hieght first..or the pedal just movies down with the nuts being adjusted .. Cheers |
