Default Tell me all the things I will need for a cam change - AU2 XR8 220kw

So it's new cam time for the XR8. It's a 5 speed. I'll list everything I can thing I'll need below, but I'd be happy for some input from anyone who cares to post. Ebay links are indicative only.

Im thinking -

Crane 2031 cam -

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CRANE-CAM...item2339c0a5f4

New valve springs -
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FORD-302-...item5d53f66aba

Timing set

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FORD-LATE...item5d5a0df8ae

Harmonic balancer (can;t hurt?)

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FORD-302-...item5d5cf8e88a

Plus whatever gaskets I'll need at the time. I haven't listed lifters because I've read that it's not necessary to replace roller lifters? With regards to tuning I'll most likely go a QH.

Anything else?

Thanks mate. Havent heard of the Lunati cam before. Any reason you suggested that over the Crane?

The Lunati has a better lobe profile, it will give better results both in terms of power as well as ease of tuning.

Ok. And it would also suit a manual?

Also, any advice on the lifters? The car has done 140k

Roller lifters are cheaper to buy from states even in dollar state, mine are on there way at $220 delivered, thats if you feel like replacing them.

The only thing different to your list is i want to change the cam bearings, the rest im doing was not required for the cam swap!

Some of the American roller lifters you need to remove the heads to fit them.

I would do lifters just as a precaution. Sure you can re-use them but if they have spent so long running off a different cam I wouldn't.

Thanks everyone.

So, Summit would be the best place to go shopping then?

Summit is good. I even found some bits pretty cheap on Amazon and really cheap postage.

Hi everyone long time lurker first time poster and I hope I haven't dug up an old thread. Peuty have you considered heads with your cam swap? Or is budget a factor?

Heads are a consideration, but you are right, budget is also a factor.

I have seen Trickflow head combos kicking about on Summit for under three grand (yeah yeah exchange rate etc). Are they worth a look? http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...370b/overview/

Hi Peuty.Trickflow Twisted Wedge 170s are an excellent head for the SBF. So are the AFR 165s. There's plenty of info on here & the rest of the internet regarding both if you have the patience/dedication to do the research. Lots of guys run both here and report similar gains in terms of power/torque & drivability. I did the research and concluded there was a negligible technical difference between the two but preferred the AFR's due to CNC machining amongst other minor details. As you know its all about the combo so the cam is important. The Comp XE270hr is a popular grind and works extremely well in a 5.0 with good heads. Its highly recommended on here. Bottledup is the guru to ask further. I went down this path for my AU XR8 220kw auto a few years ago unfortunately my financial circumstances changed and I wasn't able to go ahead with my upgrade so I have everything brand new in storage hoping for better times. I'm open to offers PM me if you're interested.

XE270HR-14 is my usual go to cam for most daily driven 5.0Ls, its versatile and gives good power and efficiency when tuned.

The Lunati I suggested above is quite similar, though will suit a manual trans a bit better.

Hi BOTTLEDUP is that Lunati from their Voodoo range? With the steep ramp rates like the Comp Cam Xtreme Energy cams?

No its not a Voodoo profile, they're more aggressive than the Comp XE but really do need a proper dual spring to control them, especially with a 1.7 ratio rocker. The new Trickflow 11R head would match up to the Voodoo series very well.
