Default Importing a car into Victoria from overseas.

If the car is a factory original and pre 1989, does it have to be "complianced" after arriving for normal registration.

Does it have an Australian compliance plate on it and it was it built here and is returning? If not, it will need to have a VASS inspection to confirm it complies with relevant ADR's. If it is earlier than 1/1/1970?(or was it 1969) cars only had vin plates.

Thanks.....Is the VASS inspection a relatively new requirement for pre 1989 cars?
I imported a couple of cars from USA a few years ago, and they only required RWC's for registration.
