Default Xr6 St

Yesterday on my way to work I saw an XR6 ST, I had the digi cam handy so I thought I would take a photo of the badge seeing as they are a pretty rare car. I was only driving behind it for a bit, but I did see it had the Azzurro wheels.

No they were put out at the same time as the XR8 Rebel. Apparently they were originally going to be XR6 Sprint, but changed due to the Sprint being a V8 name.

Yep, that is the original badge/sticker for the XR6 VCT ST. Came with the Rebel bodykit and 18" Azzurro rims standard. Don't know exactly how many were built.. I think 125 cars if I'm not mistaken, but probably am.

I don't believe this is correct. I have seen blue, black, red and silver XR6 ST's. I think you're talking of the T1 TS50.. which was available in black, silver and burgundy only.

The Rebel Kit (or Ford Racing Kit as it was known) was optional on AU2 XR8s and was original fitment for all AU3 XR8s.

AUII XR8's had option of Kit, but the "Rebel" Bodykit became standard for them on AU3. So I think the "Rebel" name only came in with AU3?

Nope, the 'Rebel' name tag came from the release of the AUII XR8 Rebel in July 2001. For the AU Series III upgrade in November 2001, XR8 buyers were given the choice of the standard Ford Racing exterior (Rebel kit) or the NCO of original AU Series II XR8 styling.

I wonder how many people chose NOT to have the NCO Rebel kit?

The last of the rebel kits were fitted to the XR6ST to help move a few more VCTs, and to get rid of leftover parts such as Azzurros, leather interiors etc. Effectively, the ST was the AU version of the XC Cobra (the Cobra was built to offload the last of the Coupe shells before the arrival of the XD). Doesn't matter what reason, though, they were/are a nice car, just 2 cylinders short.

LOL.. yeah, that would have been a very hard decision (not) for someone ordering a AUIII XR8. Get the standard fitment Rebel kit, or go for the normal Tickford kit that was fitted to AUII XR8.

BTW, the Rebel kit was a Tickford (pay for) option on AUIII XR6 and XR6 VCT.

Did a quick check JC, and I don't believe this to be the case. AUII XR's didn't have the option to fit the 'Ford Racing' or 'Rebel' kit, only the Tickford kit which wasn't much of a kit anyway. The Rebel kit was only available as standard fitment on AUII XR8 Rebel (July 2001-November 2001), AUIII XR8 (November 2001>) and as a Tickford option on AUIII XR6 and XR6 VCT models (November 2001>).

You wouldn't be the only one mate. They were not something that Ford planned for at the release of the AU. I doubt there even was a brochure for them.

Click here for some pic's of clontarf_xs' AUIII XR6 ST. Now a 4DR hatchback apparently since yesterday. :
