Default V8 BF Falcon XT sedan with ZF 6 speed

Anybody on these forums own such a car or know anybody who owns one? I would be most interested to hear from these people as I want to know how this car performs. I have a V8 BA Falcon XT sedan with 5 speed whose lease expires in approximately 9 months and am starting to think about my next lease car.

What about getting a test drive at a dealership? Rock up in your XT and they'll know you're not there for just a joyride.

Only thing i got to say is the fact that they are hard to get, therefore theres little discount on them and that you can probarly buy an XR8 for 4 - 5 k more, which is certainly worth it considering you get the 18s, body kit, xr bits and 6 stacker!

with 230 kw and 500 nm they sound like they would be a nice bang for buck buy.

...am I missing something here??? Didn't think the ZF 6 speed was even a factory option on anything less than an XR?

V8 is a ZF must have. You get it regardless, plus sports suspension and alloys etc.

It is Ford's equivalent to the Holden Commodore SV8 without a body kit. I like it as it is a sleeper and individual. How many V8 XTs have you seen? I suspect not many. Pity the entry BF V8 model is no longer available with a manual gearbox.

Yep .. one reason why I still like my VY1 SV8 .. looks like everyone elses Exec V6 with boot spoiler and mags. The VY has the added bonus that it's very hard to differenciate the V6 badge from the V8 ones on the front qtrs
I drove a BA XT V8 before I bought my SV8 .. nice car, just felt a bit underpowered compared to the GenIII. But I've seen a couple of nice XT V8 "sleepers" about. There was a really nice black on in Bendigo. Sweet!!
PS: Did you know the SA Police can buy VY/VZ Exec V8s on special order. They show up at auctions .. 15" steel rims and all! Be interesting if Ford would special order 260kw Boss or 240kw turbo in XTs?

VY SV8s do take some beating in standard trim and is pretty good sleeper too.

But like the Ford equivilant, if you havn't got 20 grand to throw away in the first 18 months, then second hand makes the most sense. And they're not hard to find, it's a buyers market.

An SV8 sat in the lot down the road for months, and months. Started at $30K, then had 28, 26, 24990 slapped across the windscreen. God knows what it went for ??

Due to the VVT of the Barra220/230 they're probably the sweetest and smoothest engine of the whole range. Just need to free them up a little at the higher end and they are torque tagged to stop frying the auto gearbox in 1st. Combined with the ZF A6 and you have a fantastic powertrain combo, add sports suspension & 17" and you're set.

yes definately.

I know a BF XT I6 manual goes pretty hard, a V8 would be cool.

I cant believe they have dropped the option, thats a joke, its not like its any harder to manufacture, lazy bums.

I have driven a BF 3v Fairlane Ghia and it hammered, so a XT weighs less so it would be an awesome ride with a few mods. Only bummer is that it doesn't rev, but I guess an auto solves that problem.

The 3 valver's rev all right don't worry about that, and they go hard after some mods. If you haven't checked out our development of the 3 valve i suggest you need to check out some of the threads below.

Its because they no longer use the 5 speed in the XR8/GT anymore, and making less than 10 per month means they didn't bother spending engineering dollars to fit the 6 speed T56.

Seriously mate, who are you kdding here? I took a G220 for a couple of laps of Mt Panorama about 3 weeks ago and it was a set set slug. It sounded good but definately needed a wake up. A definate car that needs to go to ACE.

The 5 speed on the other hand(XT of course) went a bit better. The motor is smooth and hits that cut out without warning, you just dont realise how quick they reach the kill joy.

BF tho, they gained atleast 10kw, and the red line was raise nearly 1000 rpm if I remember correctly.

Although from all the reviews I've read they are hardly any faster. To be honest the I6 is almost as fast. Stock atleast from the reviews.

But mod'd they seem to turn huge numbers.

My dream would be to get a 2nd hand BF Ghia V8 and put on a supercharger make a 350Kw+ sleeper.

But total cost of mods + fuel makes the project spiral out.

Its only in the Ghias they seem to be a popular option.

A BA / BF Ghia modded to get 235 RWKW, stall convertor, 4.10 Diff Gears would be one tough luxury car on the street and then put some drag rubber on and you got yourself a 12 second drag car.

What else could you want?

Im not kidding anyone, a 3v BF Fairlane most definately feels quickish for what it is. Have you driven the 6 speed version? (thats BF not BA).

I dont know what the official stats are, but I wouldn't be suprised if a BF 3v Fairlane can keep up with a BA XR8 4spd.

Stock ? Not a chance. Maybe for initial take off, as the ZF is streets ahead in take off performance, but once the XR8 got revving it's all over.

See above comments from Craig@ACE
He's the guy that has been doing all the R&D on these engine .. and putting down the times as well .... it's running high 12's now.

But I think Falcon Freak is after a ZF model 6-speed auto ... and they are still relatively brand new ... so getting one 2nd hand is going to be tough indeed. Although a trip to ACE after purchase of a brand newy ... and I think the 230kW 3V can be livened up a bit. :the_finge
