Default VCT Oil Change

Due for new oil this weekend and have narrowed it down to 2 oils

Shell Helix Ultra 5w40
Penrite HPR 10w50

The mornings here have been getting colder and I travel 120km each day (90% on the freeway) so I am leaning towards the helix.

These seem to be popular oils so I would like to see any recommendations/suggestions of which is the better of the two.

Either will do the job well. I personally use Helix in my VCT as I find it seems to last a little longer than the Penrite in mine. I found once the Penrite starts to break down it very quickly deteriorates compared to the Helix.

Fuchs is also good, but IU use Penrite HPRGas10 (same as the HPR10)

Castrol Edge 5w30 is another option? But after doing a search it doesn't appear that anyone is running this in an AU six. Looks as though the HPR and Helix are quite popular, leaning towards the shell at this stage as its slighlty thinner as well being fully synthetic.

i run the castrol edge in mine.. but i have top end noise on light throttle application especially if i bring the revs up like 200rpm then let off it taps...
not oil related tho.. as i ran a thicker one(10w shell i think it was instead of the 5w castrol) and it still did it so *shrugs*

Same viscosity as the HPR 10 but a few specific additives for gas applications.

i need to c hange my oil desperatley, whats the go?? im using nulon 15w5o at the moment! Is 15w50 ok to keep running?? Wouldnt mind trying something else but dont know whats good.

Now I'm now expert but isn't running 5W30 or 40 too thin as ford recommend 10W40
I found shell helix ultra to be broken down in 3000 km's

My current oil is Fuchs Super GTO 10W40. It's one of the top ones in their range
Gives great performance without any noise

I run Castrol Edge 25w50 in the XR8 and love it, brilliant oil.

The 8 should run a 10W30, the 6 as 10W40. Any oil +/-10 in that range will be fine. 25W50 is a bit thick on cold startup, but it's your engine.

doesnt seem to be too bad so far, before that it has been run on 15w40 all it's life so I'm not too fussed.

Recommended Oil is API SJ/CF 10w-30 LLSAC GF2 for the petrol VCT engines
If not available use /40 or/50
I would go for the Helix as the viscosity grade is closer to those specifications

Personally I just take it to Strapp Ford & let them do it

I have used HPR10 for the last 18 months. moved from magnatec. Best move ive ever done. I change every 5000 regardless of conditions, and the oil is always golden, never burnt.
