If push came to shove and money no object, the 4.6 will ultimately develop more power.
Out of the box and in the real world of budgets, I'd imagine the straight six would be the power unit of choice. |

Do they have edits for the mustangs? I would think with a tune, exhaust and a pulley on a blown stang it would make a huge difference and not cost too much?

Both engines have cast iron block. XR6T block is good for 1000+hp, who knows for how long though. Not sure about the stang block, probably pretty tough though.

Not much in it but the Cobra 4.6 is a tuff little motor..
With turbo they have made close to 1000 h.p... http://www.turbomustangs.com/smf/index.php?board=32.0 But bang for buck and being we don't have too many mod motors here compared to 6's... I/e I can by a 24 valve 6 for $700.00 but there's NO way I could buy any mod motor even close to that price..Add $1200 for top quaility rods and $1500 for similar quality pistons and you have a tuff engine...Still under the $$ of a mod motor...

Street Machine has a Mustang 4.6 Turbo built by a couple of Ozzies that runs 7's over in the states on drag radials. Makes over 1500hp with 25 psi from a single turbo. The skies the limit with a turbo V8.

Well when I said blown I should have said the factory supercharged engine. Not that I'm not saying you can't upgrade the supercharger itself, but a Turbo V8 I would have thought would have had the wood over a 6.

Of course, 2 more pots making horsepower.
The 't' 6 boys like to sidestep that fact when they knock the NA 8's.

Alot of development work has been done on the 4.6L in the states, much more than has been done here on the T. As said these have been developed to run 7's and make 1500HP. Now we could do that as well for more money etc, but we also have to note that the 4.6L has a larger starting displacement as well.
My opinion the 4.6 would be the one. |

4.6 is known for throwing legs out, and regulaly changing block in performance modifications is common...
Your bang for buck is far better ith 6T, as parts are plentiful and cheap. Not many 4.6L's is AUS....... Plus the torque curve from the turbo will cream the 4.6... As blower is up top.. 5k down the T motor and not much catches you, far cheaper than 4.6L, and far more reliable.... Cheers

if $$$ were the concern, the 6T motor would be alot cheaper IMO to mod and get serious power out of.
the stang will sound better, more money for similar peak power, but i would imagine like to rev a fair bit more, as its not a long stroke like the 6 ?? i could be wrong

03 Cobra with ease. Though in Australia parts are harder to find.
The stock 03 Cobra does mid 12s regularly, and has seen an 11.9 as best ever time. They're plenty fast. 390hp 390ftlbs was the claim, though it was more like 425hp 425ftlbs. The thing going against the Cobra is this - they have a chassis as bad as a bus. Even if they're IRS, its just all wrong, they corner horribly. Put one of those stock and a stock XR6 Turbo on any race circuit and the Cobra will lose each and every time. Plus the rear seats might aswell not be there. XR6 Turbo, well, its a sedan, seats five, handles infinitley better, can be made stupendously fast for small amounts of money and the parts are all readily available in Australia. It would be a very tough choice. Personally, I'd probably choose the Mustang. '03 Cobra coupe in blue is one of my absolute favourite US cars of all time. Plus its rare (and somewhat exotic) here, and lets face it, I don't spend much time on race circuits. NB - Oh and sheer potential wise, with a limitless budget, the Mustang will always win. Far more parts for the Mod V8 then the Turbo Six available globally and far more dollars have been put into its development, what with being Ford's hero engine in the US, which has an aftermarket industry bigger then Australia's new car industry, for a number of years.

F6 would win bang for buck or any buget restricted horsepower chase. Mustang wins for outright potential though. I'll just get those splinters out of my rear end now (fencesitter???)
