Every completely new model in the Falcon Wagon range had new styling (front and rear).

Someone mentioned ute's, that's fine, but it doesn't relate to the Wagon topic, which have always changed rear ends at each new model. As others have said, the BA was not a completely new model, but simply an evolution of the AU, exactly why 2007 Commodore wagons share the same rear end with the 1998 versions.

I think leaf springs would be retained, as the pro's outweigh the cons given the market that buys this sort of vehicle.

The Orion wagons and utes will more then likely carry the same rear end unfortunately.

It's fair in that it highlights how Ford have neglected the wagon's development even compared to the BA/BF sedans and what areas it needs to improve in just to get close to the Terry let alone any opposition brands. I think they'll only treat it as the work horse of the range although DSC and curtain airbags are a must for the future and it really wouldn't surprise me if the leaf springs stay.

fair enough they may "ride" better and in general probably be more comfortable but push a territory around a roundabout at speed and it carrys more body roll than my 14yo eb.

Totally serious, as it's what I experience ever day between the two, comparing my '03 Futura wagon to current Terry, the wagon's rear end will let go well before the Terry, sure the Terry will body roll more, but that's all, it grips and hangs on longer and doesn't axle hop if you hit a mid-corner bump, which the wagon will do every time. Taking a magazine's test with only some credibility, Wheels took the sales leading cars in several classes including commercials for a handling test and the Terry was outhandling a VZ Exec sedan and I don't think my Futura wagon would beat a VZ sedan in a such a comparison, do you?

FRANK-EN-UTE XD-XF come XH or with your logic Ford release the all new EA26 but the ute(trusty XF) still plugs along until it gets EF bits on the front to make it a XH. Not that hard to imagine really. We will all wait and see.

I agree about the market thing, but I highly doubt it will have the same rear design as the current wagons.

All of this is of course based on a rumour from an unreputable website, like many other motoring journals who don't know what a camshaft is, let's wait until we hear proper confirmation from Ford itself.

No one knows yet what will happen with the 'Orion' (or BF3) wagon. No one knows truly what Fords plans are. We all would like to see a completely new wagon, but its a lot of money Ford dont absoloutely need to spend. Back when XD an EA came it out, it was worth spending big bucks on the wagons.

Ditto on the next ute, the beauty of the cab chassis is you can rip off the AU/BF front end and chuck on an Orion one, and keep the same tub/tray on the back. Who knows what Ford will do?

I actually wanted a performance-based wagon when i was after a new (company) car. was told the xt or futura, 6 cyl auto only, basic colour story too. thats why i bought an xr8 ute.
and this was at the same time as holden was offering an ss commodore wagon, so in my mind, this is another case of ford dropping the ball and giving an entire market to the opposition. :togo: :togo:

Ford would have made a deal with them to get rid of stock. The wagon market isn't big, as the SUV market has taken over.
For the car to get a redesign or even continue Ford need to be able to justify the investment in bringing out a new model.

Check the sales figures of ED and EF XR6 wagons. They are one of the rarest Falcons built. Rarer than EB and EL GTs, rarer than Phase IIIs etc

I love the Liberty Wagon too, it's my favourite.

Now if ford had something like that, it'd be mine ! The BF styling is just too boxy for my liking. Lets see what Ford offer us next year.

The new mondeo wagon looks Ok, but i'll wait to see one in the flesh.

Wait until holden release their wagon, based on the commodore sedan wheelbase rather than the strech statesment/caprice.

Then you'll have a hot, 270KW V8, IRS wagon with stability control. Ford will not compete in that market. Articles says they will focus on the trady, working class wagon market. I think its a mistake, but hey, i'm not the marketing experts that did the research when they released a "tuff, solid-rear-axle, high-as-the-sky" AU when commodore went IRS, lower profile VT and shifted the australian car market into gear.

If they are going to all the trouble of building a decent family wagon with different roof and rear doors on the longer wheelbase, then perhaps they should consider the huge potential of a dual cab ute option, especially on a RTV platform.
I would like to see a dualcab Territory style ute and a longer wheelbase offroad capable Territory like a Merc GL500 v ML or an Audi Q7 v Touareg.
