Before todays v8 supercars, the older australian touring car championships, what where the regulations if anyone knows? For example, the cars that where raced at Bathurst, Phillip Island etc. the cars there, they where the exact models you could buy off the showroom, for example, XY GTHO that where raced, you could buy that same car in the showroom, had same power handling etc.? And the manufacturor had to release at least 300 to showrooms to race?
Then in later years the rules changed that for racing that the racing versions could have 15-20% power increase over the showroom model? Is this correct? |

wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back the cars were often driven to bathurst. i have a video somewhere that shows the cortina that won the first bathurst (1965???) being driven home. i think they had to be cars that could be bought from the showroom. not sure how the homologation rules apply though.

Here's a site with race cars from the 50's - 90's , some photo's are pretty bad because they're so old , but some pretty interesting stuff in there

Its all on the DVD "THE RACING HISTORY OF FORD AT THE GREAT RACE". It shows the winners and footage from 1960 to 1997. Great viewing for nostalgia fans. Pitstops for wheel changes include a hightech wheel brace with a Falcon steering wheel welded to one end of it for faster spinning. Ah, the good ol days !!!
