It can't be the cheap power because of these VN-VS cars are absolute dogs on the street. I still look back and laugh at how many VS Executives and VN V8's my old Ford Laser cleaned up with four people in the car

Those cars must have been running on three cylinders or maybe being so far back they couldn't operate the pedals properly. Or maybe that massive hole in the Lasers exhaust helped the lil 1.8 scream.........

Well it might interest some to know that the "at fault" " statistics from insurance companies may not support the general beliefs.

For instance Suncorp list the the Alpha Romeo at 58% while the HSV is -34%.

It's no secret that insurance companies adjust their premiums of vehicle make & model based on claims regardless of whether it's vanadlism, collision, etc. So I guessed an easy way to find out if the VN is more at rsik than the EAII was to see what the difference is. Trouble is that when I ran a $3000 VN through an online calculator as a 20 yearold, it was about $1300, but when I tried with the EAII they wouldn't cover it (I think they considered the $3k way too much). Maybe because they can get less hassle insurance with the commodore, they are chosen over the falcon?

no its because all the vn's that crash have drunk drivers and insurance is void ROFL

Don't bother with statistics for late model HSV's etc. Most of the P Plater bogans in their VL-VS's could never afford them. Also people tend to drive differently when they have spent 60k+ on a car rather than 5k.

As boss8rx says, I think it has ALOT to do with how much they respect their car. You'll get the VL/VN driver who knows its a shitbox and consequently thrashes the crap out of it, whereas theres the guy in a newer BA/VZ commodore who never will.

I agree to most perspectives, a mate of mine purchased a vl, after i tried to get him to purchase an XC/B series falcon as i didnt want him being caught in the 'fully sick' vl demograhpic, despite him driving a vl is still a great carefull driver. But at times he gets a bit out of hand.

Yet i have a mate driving an 80's model fairlane, and he's more of a dick than any of us, third day he had his car, he tried to drift a round about at 60kph, started fishtailing nearly hit a pole then ran up & into a huge garden bed. Wrote off the car and i was the only passenger when it happend. Unbelievable!!! I've made a promise to myself, to never get in the car with him again.

I also think it has to do with drivers starting off with underpowered sensible driving school cars, toyota ecos for example once completed their training, they then consider buying their first car, for example a laser, and once they've got a bit of moula up, and knowing the majority of people adore vl/vk's/vn's/xf's for the reason they are 'the sh**' and watching clips of ripping skids & burnouts on youtube and the like they tend to replicate those acts!

Most often people are being killed is because they can't get out of a situation, they oversteer/understeer and up big time. Most deffinately with deep regrets about what they've done, then losing respect for the car and continue doing these things.

My opinion of course, each entitled to their own.

If only they would train people to drive properly, some of these accidents could be avoided. The government does not give an F though, it would be a hassle to implement and it would cost them money. Just easier to put up more speed cameras and raise the cost of fines and watch the revenue roll in and the road toll stay the same. Idiots.

Sorry but i don't think you can use these stats. If I had an Alfa I'd want to insure it too, but a teenager in a Commodore isn't likely to get insurance, 1) due to the premiums and 2) because he can't afford it as he'd rather spend the money on a moon tacho or a new white baseball cap.
So there would be no stats for young bvlokes in a VL,VN VS etc.
