And Volvo have straight sixes and a 60 degree V8 that were just made for transverse FWD applications just sitting around doing nothing.

Hah. I don't think you'd be alone either.

Most would move to Holden and BMW anyway. At least Beemas will still have I6 engines with RWD.

Holden go bigger from 5.7 to 6.0 or 6.2 HSV (I know big isnt always better).
If Ford go 5.4 back to 5.0 is the 5L V8 suppose to better? As I always thought with NA there was no subsitute for cubes.

Are they, FoMoCo, trying to invent new ways to sell less cars?

fwd has an advantage in packaging the engine trans in small cars. In medium to large cars this is out weighed by the driveability disadvantages of FWD.

New trick front end for high hp in Focus, All rubbish. Make this change to FWD just after Toyota announce FWD Land Cruiser which is slated for just after hell freezes over, and you will be OK

The CGIs that pop up every now and then of the next Taurus do look remarkably like a FG Falcon. The "Revoknuckle" on the FocusRS would probably allow for V8 and V6 Ecoboost by eliminating torquesteer. Still rather a well balanced RWD or even better the 42/58 split AWD of the Territory. Would've thought that RWD would have continued with the Mustang supposed to share closer development links. Would've guessed that the 5.0 would be the development of the Jaguar V8, but sounds good anyway - good low end pickup and midrange with more useable rev range.

gm are moving some of there cars to ff also so we might even see holden being forced to do the same, seeing as there platforms are shared?

why cant we make cars rr with boot space at the front?

does anybody else think that this is illogical.

-Ford Au want to keep the falcon
-Ford wants a global RWD platform
-A smaller FWD falcon is basicly a Mondeo
-If you make the falcon FWD and Smaller, then you loose a huge market segment, No large cars, which still sell, No utes, nothing for the territory to be built on.
-whats the point of haveing a FWD falcon when there is a mondeo.

Its better to have choice in a line up, look at toyota.

Look at the biggest selling cars in the US now and the Honda Accord features heavily, the same one we get here which came second to FG G6 in a Caradvice comparison. Also of note is that the US Avalon is being discontinued and being replaced by an extended nose and tail Camry V6 - Aurion anyone. Ford could sell every LHD Falcon, and for that matter Territory, that we could give them. They just don't want to and don't see how to make a profit on exporting out of Australia. To my feeble mind, I would think it better at this stage to be selling Falcon at a small unit loss but retaining market share and building your US brand image ready for the 2010/11 drivetrain changes, if they take off Ford have plenty of unused capacity to build Falcon too. And a ready made Security and Services market.

So far the rumoured numbers are 300 kw for the standard 5.0, and 330kw for the direct injection version. That would tie in nicely with the need for 2 versions for the XR8 and GT. From memory they are all alloy. Do a search for a thread titled "Which V8?", there is plenty of info in there.

The 6.2 is now truck only. Its use has been scaled back to only the super duty f series, due to the downturn of gas guzzlers in the US.

Why not use the Mondeo ?

Can't see Mondeo making sense, even now with the 2.3 it's questionable, needs the 2.5 at least. With TDCi at least it has some torque. Competes with Passat, yeah but not Audi even. Quality mid range vehicle only.

FWD would only make economic and practicality sense if it were linked with the bigger V6 DIR Duratec and Ecoboost families of Taurus, Edge, Flex, Explorer, F100, Lincoln MKS, etc. and tied in to the Mustang and other performance ranges.
FORD seem to be heading toward a full range of powerful, economical, well specified and excellent handling cars all with 6spd Auto/manual by around 2011/12. Hopefully RWD will have it's part in that future.
