sorry to turn this in to more of a serious discussion. If they don't do it, they will end up like the, (what once was good), British car industry. Now shared by the Indians and Germans (Jag, Land Rover and Rolls Royce). Kinda non-existent. Now Tata are seeking a UK bailout, BMW and Mercedes are down... Toyota and Nissan are down 30-40% so pretty much everyone is screwed at the moment. So, I don't know who is thriving out there right now.

cant see the future looking too good for these car manufacturers....
it might have been covered, but is holden likely to suffer because of the GM links?
by the way, love holdens ad: "times are tough..holdens, and australians, are tougher." holden isnt really australian anymore, is it?...think "chevvie V8s in SS's".
and ford, if theres trouble for them over there, are we messed over here?

Great post.
I am glad that Ford Australia has produced a great car in the FG though. People have to take notice eventually.

I saw many Camrys today and when I look at them, especially the front, I wonder, 'why?'.

That plastic grill shouts "cheap" and the body is a box with a rounded roof. Terrible. Yet people buy them.

There isn't really a "Chevy" V8 anymore. The GM engines are already globalized under "GM Powertrain."

Porsche is apperantly, dunno how though they've had one of the biggest downturns in sales but were still able to buyout VW.

instead giving them 25 billion dollars, why doesnt the government buy 25 billion dollars worth of cars from them, and maybe give them back to the tax payers?

That sounds like a good idea, but I would have thought that "the big 3" have to pay this money back or give it back in the form of shares and the like.

It is, its for them to get loans. Not a handout like here in Oz.

I didn't know that about the chevrolet/gm motor. But I ask , if Holden had always been sole owned and not purchased by gm, would Holden have done as well with their v8 range? Would the 5litre have continued? Gm support them quite a bit don't they?

A bit off topic but I always thought the aussie 5 litre is a better motor, it's not as fast as the LS motors but it's a good, honest motor that will serve you well and does not require too much maintenance.

It was, and still is, a fantastic motor.
