I agree with most here, you did the right thing, if it was the first time he has done something so stupid you may have scared him into not attempting it again and so he has learned a valuable lesson, now all this kid needs is his parents to make him pay for the damage either now or when he gets a job, hold it over his head to further remind him of the stupid act, this kid could have gone on to causing a serious accident, so coming accross you was HIS lucky day..if he were my son he would'nt be able to sit for a week

ok well i spoke to the cops today, and they advised me that i was a good cavillion for caring about the community, also they have provided my insurance with the details for his pearents insurance company.
Now heres the tricky part if his pearants say yes without their knolage he took the car (theft) the insurance is not liable, but the police know from his statement that it was theft. so im up for $300 ecces to fix my car, unless the pearents agree to pay for the damage which would be $600. also the accesor said it would be close to $600 to fix my car. As for the kid he has a criminal record for life as the laws have changed and it dosent get wiped when you turn 18 anymore. |

At the end of the day alot of kids restrain themseves from getting into cars when unlicenced, my view because off all who have supported me in this is this, IF YOU COMMIT THE CRIME YOU DO THE TIME, no matter if your 15 or 50 years old.
And again many thanks to all those who have supported me through this you have been a huge help, and if this was to happen again i would do the same thing. Dont forget if i let him go it could be your Mum, Dad, or loved one he could of killed and i can't live with that. |

Don't most insurers have no excess if you provide the at fault party's details?
The insurance might refuse to pay because he doesn't have a licence, doesn't really matter if he had permission to use the car, he legally can't drive. Insurers will take any way out they can get. It's likely the money will have to come from the parents' pockets. $600 isn't too much of a stretch for the parents to pay, unless the parents are scum and won't play ball, then you should get your money.

That's right. It's not wiped. If he's a naughty boy again, it won't be mentioned in the court room, but the judge knows about it |

I thought that if you provided the at fault party's details - name and address then they will take it up with them and you pay no excess. They stole a car so don't have insurance, sucks to be them. Looks like that $10 a week pocket money is theirs no more. Same if someone with no third party hits you, your insurance fixes you car, and if you can provide details of the at fault party then they will get the money from them somehow (usually by instalments) and you pay no excess.

His name was Brian and yes he's a naughty boy, just pay the 600 and get on with your life, theres more important things in life than a car with a minor dent behind a number plate, blah blah blah

you have kids?? if so do you let them get away with murder?? has anyone stollen from you? (illegal and in same category as a 600 dollar bill you don't need) or hit and run with your car?? he didn't ask for this to happen remember?? this is a discussion thread so before you get your nickers in a knot i'm discussing how i dissagree with your answer.. the principle? respect?? anyone remember that word?? yea you can tell me to blow it out my aaarrrsssee . i'm sorry mate but i dissagree with your reply cause it happened to me but i didn't catch the little c......t. i'll give you another example..different but simular.. i have a cafe.. a kid on drugs broke into my business looking for money.. next day i was devastated. i didn't ask for it.. either way 800 dollars for windows and doors came out of my pocket. when the police brought him to me (surprising) they asked if i wanted to press charges. f...k yea i said!!! i didnt get my 800 back but the kid went to rehab as part of his charge.. a year later unexpectedly the kid came in on his own and appologised.. said he was clean.. that was good enough for me.. let alone him.. did i do him a favour?? who knows?? you get the picture.. And you are right, i have just gone into huge debt to buy a house to start my own family, obviously you know how expensive that is, so $600 to me is quite abit of cash, also like i said in a prev post i bought the carto have something nice for a change as ive only owned dented cars all my life without the help of my oldies so the value of the dollar for me is huge. At least you and alot of other forum members understand me, not like others who have obviosly been raised with a silver spoon. I hope to catch up with heaps of you in person on a cruze some day because you speak with respect for others. |
