Holden recalls 10,000 Cruze sedans in Australia
by: By Paul Pottinger From: news.com.au June 27, 2012 12:54PM Holden Cruzes are being recalled over an oil leak that could result in fire. Source: Supplied ALMOST 10,000 Holden Cruzes are being recalled because of spilled oil potentially catching fire. Holden this morning said the recall applied to 9,547 units of the Adelaide built sedan fitted with the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine. It follows a Cruze recall in North America for the same potential hazard. Holden said a condition has been identified where the car’s belly pan can catch oil that might drip from the engine if an oil change is not done properly. “If oil makes contact with hot engine parts such as the exhaust manifold or catalytic converter, a fire could occur,” the statement read. There are no reported cases of engine compartment fires in Australia or New Zealand related to this condition. Holden Director of Warranty, Customer Satisfaction and Quality, Craig Porritt said the Australia’s standards of servicing significantly reduce the risk. “However we will always err on the side of caution when it comes to initiating safety recalls and campaigns,” he said. “Even if there have been no reported cases in our market we will take action to assure our customers and their vehicles are safe.” Holden is contacting customers to arrange a free-of-charge modification. Owners are urged to contact 1800 632 826.

Kudo's for acting responsibly - but I wonder if this could just as easily been covered in a service bulletin to Dealers. The fix is probably just a small drainage hole drilled into the plastic undertray....
Still, better to be proactive before there are any actual incidents. |

No point waiting another 10-12 months. If they waited an something went wrong in the mean time it would be a PR nightmare.

Second recall for Cruze in regards for potential fire. First one was from leaking diesel.

The Cruze is a true global car...
All australia does, is stamp panels and assemble them here, the rest of the parts are from other countries.

The majority of car manufacturers voluntarily recall cars for faults....Comes wih the territory of mass production. Keep your eye on the paper and you see at least 1 a month
As long as the problem is identified and fixed, there isn't a problem, unlike some other manufacturer that swept a dangerous problem under the carpet and faced a nice lawsuit.

And Holden should take a leaf out of Ford's books
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11369730 Oh well, at least the cruise will only set fire to itself, where as Ford can burn anything round it.....

Let's keep it on track people. Whatever your view of the Cruze, the fact remains that this is the responsible thing for any manufacturer to actually do when presented with a potential safety issue.
Cheers Russ
