Default DO you think Speeding fines are BS - would you donate $$ to set the record straight

Ok, the speeding thing is getting to me even more these days.

probably because i just did a trip to Melbourn and all those stupid road signs calling me an idiot for doing 3km over the limit while everyone else was playing with their phones and not a real cop in sight.

So any one with a brain knows speeding fines are 90% revenue raising.

So do you guys think its a good idea to set up an organisation that raises money to place advertisements telling some home truths - probably in positions that directly impact the governments advertisements.

Some ideas:

on the boarder of NSW and Vic
"warning, you are entering the nanny state - as long as you are doing exactly the speedlimit, you can do make up and play with your phone all you want because cameras cant see that"

or next to a wipe off 5 add in vic
"US department of transport study No. FHWA-RD-92-084 found :
*accidents at sites where speed limits were lowered increased by 5.4 precent
*accidents at sites where speed limits were raised decreased by 6.7 percent."

in 2011-12 NSW raised $89 million from Speed cameras.
In 2011-12 Victoria raised $250 million dollars from speed cameras

Speeding is the cause of less than 7% of accidents but represents 86% of traffic fines

its is statisticaly more dangerous to drive 10% below the speed limit that 10% over the limit (quote stats)

max Speed limit by country:
Germany unlimited
Austria 160kmh
italy 150
united states 137
Norway 130
tunisia & australia 110

you could also do some cool youtube or tv commercials (poor bugger getting hit with a $700 fine for speeding on a long weekend while some idiot in the right lane eating a bigmac and doing their nails at 20 below the speed limit gets nothing)

I think you get the drift - do you think there is merit in setting something up - would you throw in $10 bucks?

I'd be in for that but you can almost guarantee that any sign contradicting or embarrassing govco. will be pulled down in very short order because you just know they'll find some obscure or irrelevant by-law or statute to justify keeping joe public in the dark.

Its a good idea but the problem is all the powers that be in this country make too much money off of speeding fines and this ******** idea that speeding is the most dangerous thing anyone can ever do despite numerous studies proving the exact opposite. Like those ads that try and claim that every 5kph over the limit doubles your braking distance, complete BS but the masses fool for it and back the speed kills money making agenda.

I'm in I spent 2 hours with my local state member armed with a defensive driving instructor on this very subject. Check out "ROAD SENSE" on the net. I asked the said member who is actually a great bloke, how do you over take a semi trailer SAFELY without exceeding our nana 100 k speed limit. Ans: I can't. I then asked why is it that overtaking is LEGAL but its NOT taught or tested????????????. I lived it the NT for 8 years when there was no limit and there was no problem now there is. We as drivers are not suicidal and we are best to judge what is safe and what is not. You cannot legislate for idiots they will still kill themselves and the stats prove it. As far as the original question goes I would be in as long as it is properly organised. Speeding is now a Billion Dollar industry for state governments to beat this rubbish and the NANA's that are behind it only a well national funded organised lobby group will bring change to free our roads from the speed NAZI's

See that is the real problem, more idiots than safe drivers.
This topic is doomed due to the idiot drivers we have.

I found out some information you won't believe! And it makes a joke of even the death rate for the very low% of the toll that were actually speeding over the limit and not just to fast for the condition and under the limit. I was listening to the vic coroner talking about single vehicle accidents resulting in death and by far the majority ie 70% + are suicides! He was expressing that when there is a crash particularly single vehicle into trees or poles or sadly trucks the coroner looks into the history of the driver and it's mostly the same. There's problems in that persons life. (Lifelines only a phone call away if you're thinking that way). Anyway these do not go down in starts as suicides as there is no conclusive proof obviously and they will and do go down as perhaps a speed ing related death. What a joke. That's the truth.
There actually are not that many idiot drivers out there killing everybody. That to is a lie. All for revenue and we believe it! ?

I made a point recently that campaigning to have 100% of all revenue from speeding fines removed from consolidated revenue and forced in to infrastructure and other road related items would be a way to break the stigma, before moving on to having limits and tolerances raised to common sense level.

There is not a lot to argue against it so it's a possibility it might gain traction, and it will certainly change the tune of the pollies when they can no longer rely on it to fix budget holes.

I have NFI where to start though. I am marketing illiterate.

I saw that the proceeds from one particular speed camera would be going to building a particular playground. Made me wonder what would happen if no one sped past it.

I definitely agree that the money raised by speed cameras should go back into transport infrastructure and driver training and not for MPs to travel to weddings in India

Speeding is typical propaganda, Governments are addicted to revenue, when there are no criminals, governments create them, when they can't get enough revenue, tighten the rules and make bigger penalties. We, the people lose out.

If no-one got booked for speeding from here on out, the gov' would soon find other ingenious ways of extracting money from the public. I confess, I speed every time I overtake, I got my license in 1995 & I couldn't possibly estimate the number of vehicles I've passed over the years.... I'm not dead yet!

Why is it that gov' fee's & charges don't adhere to the consumer pricing index like all the other things we can buy. Vehicle rego's in Tas' went up by $30 last year.
My car insurance cover/value dropped by $300 too but the monthly premium went up by $3. My car's in the same condition in January as it was the December before, so why the change? Oh' that's right, the government say's so.

Disboosheet!

To the OP, if such signs were erected, rest assured the perpetrator of said thought crime would go to jail for 50 years with no parole.

If caught that is...
