From what I remember reading about the Hurricane it was a different version of the modular. The block would be bigger bore, stroke would be probably the same as 5.4 to get to 6.2. Heads would be most likely 3V just like the current 5.4 but combustion chambers to suit the bigger bore. Bore/stroke ratios would be much more suitable to achieve higher revs with lower piston speeds. Further development would be done to increase power and decrease emissions and fuel usage. They don't have the cash to delevop a clean sheet design, especially when you can already get a 6.0 from a different block with bigger bores.

I would argue the LS6/LS2 are not truck engines. They are most definately car engines. They were designed for use in the Camaro(now discontinued) and the Corrvette and one of the reasons why they are so compact. They are all alloy where as nearly all the trucks use the iron version. They rev out to beyond 6500 rpm, and have a peaky delivery..

Falcon would lose due to lack of power.. New Honda legend? 1800+KG! New toyota and new Maxima are certainly up into near 1600kg range. Hyundias are up in the 1500-1600kg range as well.

If Ford wants to remain competitive then power has to go up. While it has a small torque advantage of ~30nm and at lower RPM's, the new asian sedans are going to be all over them in performance. At the same power level the falcons superior torque would be a advantage, but 190kw verse 225kw? Forget it. Base falcons should be looking at atleast 200kw, with high series (Fairmont, Fairmont Ghia, XR6 HP) getting 220 kw engines.

Where does this leave the 5.4? Well nowhere. 220Kw six cylinder would be all over the V8's, much the same as the current I6, Legend, camry and Grandure can catch the 5.4 now.

Fords in serious financial trouble. Ford OZ are going to lose several entire models including its flagship. Its future V8 is two maybe 3 years away.

If Ford want to stay competitive the Falcon is going to have to lift its game. Wooing private buyers and being competitive across the field.

I am going to imagine that the FPV V8 would be avalible to the range in BF MKII/Orion MKI but detuned with only 280kw. Its useless to them anyway as its not faster than the XR8 (more weight than XR) and not faster than XR6T or F6. Supercharged V8 would then slip into the lineup in GT/GT-P.

For that to happen FPV would have to source the higher torque ZF box, and maybe a stronger diff to handle the 600-650Nm of torque. But appart from that it would be 340Kw supercharged falcons for everybody.

At which point I don't see people droping 340kw sc V8s for 6.2L na V8s with 280kw.

Crystal balling can be so much fun.

in the USA today legislation came into effect that SUVs (home of V8s) must obtain 22.? mpg .... first kick in the guts for the fuel guzzlers in three decades
(passenger vehicles were not part of this legislation ... yet)

I wish that was a prediction, but no ... everyone knew it was coming and the enormous impact it will have on the whole world of V8s
