Exclamation Ford Hints at Raising More Cash After Burning Through Billions

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ford-...143010066.html

If the quarantine period does not end soon, more car companies will find themselves in this situation.

I don't there are too many businesses who won't. Supermarkets are OK but so many companies will reduce or suspend dividends to keep cash on hand.

What's the Chinese proverb (not the one about the bats),

"May you live in interesting times".

With production stopped in a lot of plants across the world, and sales massively down, all the manufacturers would be burning billions in cash. Good time to have strong cash reserves.

Will this lead to a VW stake in Ford?

VW won't be in any position to do so. They already burnt bilions and billions due to dieselgate. Which is still costing them a fortune, years after it happened. Still a few court cases going on across the world.

Even after it has, Australia, if not the world will be in recession. So no one will be buying new cars, or houses (My trade industry that I was retrenched from 2 weeks ago).

I was even informed today my Petrol Station job wont be there in 2 weeks due to the graveyard shift being removed to cut trading hours due to a massive downturn.

2 Jobs in 2 weeks, one as an essential worker.

Im in a slightly better position than others, and I wont be buying either for the foreseeable future.

Everyone will be very hesitant to spend, and it wont be until 18 months after the recession has technically ended that things will pick up. Historically this is the case. Even for essential purchases, let alone bigger purchases like cars.

Its a bad time to be a new car maker over the next few years.

Especially electric car sales.
With this whole shutdown and the impending recession coming, there may be very little incentive to further rollout the underlying charging infrastructure.

The whole industry has been thrown into the air....how it will all land is anyone's guess.

It means I'll be allowed to drive my Australian made FG X for many years to come.

Danger to economy will be ongoing ending of restrictions/new flare ups/locking down again. Follow that cycle for long enough and things will get really stuffed.

Australia and NZ have an opportunity to eradicate it, maybe. That would allow domestic economy to come back sooner. But overseas pressure will be recession.
