Hello all.
Can I get some advice from the people in the know. I bought a vacuum brake bleeder in the hope it would make it much easier to do. I can not get it to work. It holds vacuum and easily empties a container of brake fluid in no time. Problem is it will not suck brake fluid from the bleed nipple, the most I can get out is a couple of drops. What the hell am I doing wrong ? Car is a FG mk11 6 cylinder ute. Last edited by ford12; 26-01-2023 at 07:20 PM. |

Sure you got enough pressure?
They generally need around 100psi.

Is this one of those ones that connect to a air compressor?
I bought one too, it sucks balls and doesn't do squat. It sits in the corner gathering dust now. |

I bought a reasonably cheap one from Sydney Tools and it works fine - WITHOUT the brake pedal being pushed

Usually it sucks around the threads on the bleeder nipple, try only opening it 1/4 of a turn. or Try gravity bleeding, open the nipple place a catch container under, make sure master cylinder is full and go and make a cup of coffee or tea. Check the master cylinder fluid level and top up once per wheel. Make a cup between each wheel and remember to go when needed. Sure it's slow, but we found with the race cars it was the only way to guarantee a complete bleed (apparently drivers don't appreciate coming to the 1st corner and finding no brakes, go figure) Stay safe Terry aka Tbro |

Vacuum bleeders work well in dealer situations where time is critical to do multiple operations. Pumping fluid via the pedal is the best. although requiring more people to accomplish.

I wonder if it has something to do with the ABS system

ABS is electronic not hydraulic
ABS is an over-ride system and only works when your foot is firmly planted on the brake pedal with the car running
