I keep tabs on them still having my 2010SR5 in good nic with 250k. I loath to rid of it one day but can still get something like mid $20's for it. The yoot market due to the high new price costs buying 2nd hand is like the current Falcon Commodore market tbh. What did you end up buying LG ?

The Caprice came with earphones ??
Reminds of the early HSV Commodore co-worker bought. Headlight protectors were marked across the bottom with "Optional HSV Performance Excitement" or something similar.... made me chuckle. Last edited by ford71V8; 08-05-2025 at 03:17 PM. |

Found this sales brochure that confirms it. Old man used to work at Holden/HSV so I’ve got a heap of these 1990s sales brochures somewhere. ![]() And here’s another low mileage original Holden in NZ. I thought the Caprice may garner some interest from Aus. These here really have no relevance to Aus, assembled in NZ and the GTS were sticker packs with some fruit to get the VK, VL and VN out the door at the end of their model run. The downside to this is broke **** Holden crack heads equate their flogged 6 cylinder GTS to $100k 300kw VT GTS and think they’re sitting on a gold mine. Although the asking price for this one could probably be justified. ![]() |

Sub-category question; cheap towing pigs that can safely haul ~2300kg (realistic weight of car plus car trailer) pretty much “as built” and offer reasonable comfort/drivability/economy for longer tows.

When I was an apprentice I had one and my mate and I bought an old XJ6 Jag with a 351C in it as an optimistic project that never went anywhere. We used the XJ to tow it home and I nearly stacked it at 80kmh. Was only luck it didnt send us into the Armco. What about the later WJ Cherokee with either the 2.7 MB diesel or 4.7 V8. I think the V8s can have valve or lifter issues, from memory. I sold my X5 for $5k. 3.0 diesel and 6 speed auto you probably won’t get better than that as far as performance/economy/comfort/value goes. Otherwise a W163 ML Mercedes? Can get ML500 or even ML55 for sub $10k. ML55 270kw and 550nm, or thereabouts. |

It’s a longer term “start looking” scheme to replace the tired out Mazda MPV, which is not really up to the job anyway. Something that can sit maybe six weeks, and is then expected to fire up, haul a solid load in whatever conditions, and thereafter be parked; forgotten again. As the Americans say of a horse, “Rode hard and put away wet”.
I do remember surprisingly poor parts support on the E53 chassis X5 and how hard it is consequentially, to re-bush the rear end. |

Some Holden Performance devotees swallowed anything e.g. Polariser.

Bought it all from rock auto, very cheap. They seem to have everything needed in their site. Actually I’m looking at doing my FG, and I can do the whole suspension for an E53, E39, E46 far cheaper buying out of the US, than what I can for the Falcon (unless I’m looking in the wrong places). Runauto also have a decent amount of inventory for them. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...trol+arm,10401 |

Unless it was an XR, these vehicles were never actually badged as "Tickford" or carried the Tickford wings. So, just because you have a base Fairmont with a sunroof and Tickford option plate in the engine bay, that doesn't mean you have a "Tickford". Or the guys who put Tickford wings onto their Fairmont Ghia with the VCT engine, you know, because it has the "Tickford" engine.................just like every 6-cylinder Fairmont Ghia or Fairlane, as planned by FORD, not Tickford. Can you tell this ticks me off?

The POLARIZER works!
Just needs to have the tyre pressures dropped to 22psi Just on the VK GTS sticker pack or not 32k looks cheap even the prices of rusted out shells on the market in Oz

No go with an XJ for towing, may as well use a Falcon. Pajero is the go, or Ssangyong were heavy built and no to bad a cheap option.
