Default What will be FPV/HSV response to new Nissan GT-R

Nissan Australia are lobbying hard to get the new Nissan GT-R for sale in Australia

"While various powerplants have been rumoured, the smart money is now on a twin-turbo V6 engine producing around about 320kW in its 'base' form. Powered up versions are said to be good for over 400kW!"

Doesn't mention anything about the price, but i presume somewhere in the region of $100,000. Power to weight this thing will kill anything from the local boys at the moment, Holden need to release a GTS-R with LS7 and Ford need a supercharged Boss 5.4

I love fords, and dare i say it i can respect some holdens (especially my LX torana with 65.000 genuine km's) but its not only the power that ford and holden have to match, the GTR is also rumored to be equipped with the GTR-s trademark ETS system (and the obligatory all-wheel-drive) made famous in the early '90s by the r-32 series. even the r-32 built over 15 years ago are still feared and respected among many racing communities. but 400kW being put on the road by whats said to be the most advanced AWD-ETS system to date? my beloved FPV may be in for a challange

Ford and Holden won't have an answer unless they design a new car. The GT-R is a sports car while FPV ans HSV make high power family cars.

Horses for courses, I dare say HSV and FPV couldnt give a toss about Skylines of any era let alone new ones.

FPV/HSV won't have a response... you'd be looking more at a Ford GT and Chevy Corvette.

This is true...This is like asking How Ford and Holden will respond to the 911...

Quite simply...they wont. Its falling more into the region of super car

Agreed and most of those who buy Fords/Holdens could not give a rats about Skylines either, I know I don't.

the thing is the new GTR is a completely new car, Nissan have not designed if off their Skyline 4 door wheel base this time, it may look similar and might even be badged a Skyline, but as Bucket said... this thing is more like a super car

It's probably overpriced and lost the crucial formula that made the previous Skyline GTRs great.

If it's going to start lobbying in the M3/RS4 price territory, then I think the german cars are going to be more practicle.

Dare I say, but I've got a feeling that the upcoming Evo X will gain worldwide popularity from filling the niche that has now been left behind for quite sometime.

The Skyline will be a purpose built sports car. A tarted up Foulcan taxi with flares and weighing in at 1850kg will never compete in any sporting comparison no matter what FPV or HSV would do. But by and large they will be looking at a different market, I think most FPV/HSV buyers do not want four wheel drives, if they did they would be driving WRX/EVOs etc. I can't see myself ever owning a 4wd sports car, I don't care if a car laps ten seconds quicker, give me all the power to the rear and way too much of it thankyou very much. I'll take the bike if I was after laptimes or if I wanted to do it on four wheels go lightweight Caterham or something.

To sum up, they won't do anything, different market.

Yeh I agree. From what I have read, Nissan have been testing the new GT-R at the nurburgring alongside two 911's that they have purchased, indicating that they are benchmarking it against the porsches. Like everyone is sayin, its in a different class altogether.

It's in a different catagory as others have mentioned. From what I've heard about it from the US it's going to be a fairly heavy car. (not that ford or holden aren't)
IF it even comes down here it would be around 100K + for that money I would be looking at 2nd hand RS4's, M3's, or a Cayman.

Though a Typhoon with Territory running gear would be nice.

Yeah I know, makes you wonder if the much rumoured and long awaited FPV Territory will actually ever see daylight!!!! For the lead time it would want to be pretty special!

Different market. Its meant to be in the region of 120k, and i will tell u now, its gonna be a bargain if it comes in at that price. It will absolutley smash most of the European performance cars into the ground on pure pace.

All series GTR's from R32 to R34 have been in a league of their own since day 1.. Why should it be any different now?

From what I have gathered power will be very subtle compared to what they can get out of it as they want to leave room for the aftermarket.

FPV/HSV won't do jack because IMO they will always have the sales I reckon plus completely in a different league.

Godzilla

But looking at what Nissan's current lineup here it seems they are aren't the company they used to be. We have 350Z and that's it. They need base Skyline, GT-R, and a new model of the 200SX I reckon. Maybe there's just no market here for it anymore but who knows.

More models we have here from every company, the more options I have

We need some affordable supercars down under. I wouldn't mind seeing the Skyline GT-R and the Corvette Z06 come to Australia. I can't believe the Corvette Z06 only costs 70,000 USD! - absolute bargain.

I dont think FPV or HSV could care less about a Skyline or how many extra KW it can get aftermarket. More competes with the new V8 M3 than any HSV or FPV and I know which one I would have in a flash having driven heaps of I6 M3's before and I dont typically love 3 series. I wouldnt bank on much resale on that Skyline either.

People need to remember the new GTR is not at all a relation to the Skyline, it is a car on its own, specially built. It will be a ripper of a car (but still look like crap), competing against one of Germany's finest, the 911 Turbo. Ford and Holden i am sorry to say couldn't build anything close to this, they'd run out of money before it happened. They struggle to make decent family cars let alone sports cars

"your all a pack of ****holes"

GT-R=Purpose built model designed to give the supercar gang a fright

FPV=Perfomance family cars

Personally I would love a new GT-R, it looks awsome and comes with nissan quality, and a bloody awsome drivetrain....and then there will be the aftermarket (HKS, Apexi, trust, etc)...The GT-R will be keeping the godzilla name and raise the bar again...

But HSV and FPV still obviouly have there market...

(was that Richards qoute right?)
