Default Braided brake lines - any good?

Hi All,

I'm in the process of accumulating some new brake parts, so have just been doing a bit of research on braided brake lines.

Legalities aside, has anyone out there got braided brake lines in their AU? Notice any difference whatsoever? Any other feedback?

My last car had them, but as I bought the car with them in, I didn't get to feel the difference before and after.

All advice is much appreciated as always!

Thanks,

Justin.

You can get 100% perfectly legal ones these days, Tickford even used them on the premium brakes & brembos. I fitted some to mine & they definitely improved the pedal feel it firms it right up.

So you basically lose some of that initial squishiness do you?

Yes you lose the squishiness, the pedal feels more linear & consistent too.

Cool, thanks.

Do people generally only do the fronts, or rears as well?

Well I can't feel any difference whatsoever with mine. It may only be noticeable with very high pedal pressure which I never use.

I know they are not as likely to expand under high pressure so I guess that is why people who use their brakes very heavy and very often (like V8 Supercar drivers) notice a difference.

A side benefit is that they are less susceptible to damage from foreign objects that may get thrown up off the road surface.

I'm with you on this one, I have em front and rear on the brakes (Herrod setup on the front) and while Im sure they would be better than stock setup, I cant feel any noticable change.

But the ute stops so thats all I can ask for I spose :hihi:.

it probably would make more difference when the brake fluid gets very hot, the plain rubber hoses would stretch more under pressure.

FORD don't seem to think so either...

Braided lines have been replaced with "LOW EXPANSION" rubber units which is basically the rubber hose with a spiral spring around the outside to stop any undue expansion caused by high heat or pressure build up.

Methinks cost cutting........

On our BA GT the lines were replaced from rubber to Braided and there was a noticebale difference..........firmer pedal.

Our BF GT is getting its replacement ones soon as well.........

Try RACE BRAKES in Sydney, they're also a Forum Sponsor.

So basically some say the pedal feels firmer, some say no diff. Maybe bleeding the brakes corectly would see the same results?

This is the key statement. Do a bit of track work and then feel the difference

i think you'll find more difference once the lines get older the rubber ones will tend to stretch a bit as they get older

Yes all four is obviously better but just the fronts will still make a marked improvement.

Thanks for all the advice so far everyone!

Had a set (front and rear) priced up today @ $265 which I think is quite reasonable. They are also legal, and 5 minutes from home (Hightek Brakes).

Since I'll be needing to change brake lines anyway, I will get these done with the rest of the brake upgrade.
