Default sell 99 ute for xe esp?

G'day guys, a mate of mine is selling his XE esp and these are one of my absolute favourite cars, but the only way to buy it would be to sell my AU ute, and ive got another mate who might be keen in buying the ute.

Because i've just bought a new house, money is gonna be a bit tight for a while so i would have to use the XE as a daily driver until i could afford another car.
Once i've done that i could probably start to think about doing it up.

Sp i'll throw it out there....what would you guys do?

Depends on the specs of the car. If its 351, manual hell yes but 6cyl, no thanks keep the ute. I suppose it also depends on what you plan to do with the car and your budget.

If you want it bad enough and the price is right then buy it. If you honestly cant afford it then pass on it. All the advice one can give mate.

what does the other half think?
ESPs dont excite me so the answer is obvious to me.
BUT how do you feel about using it for a daily if you bought?
would you be happy with door dents, the potential that it was stolen or smashed?
would insurance give you 10k back if it was written off?
at the end of the day, its your choice.
if you really believe an ESP is all its cranked up to be over another ordinary 302 XE then its your money.
my money says i can build the same generic car for a fraction of the cost (it wont be an ESP but im not buying the car for its build plates)

I would pass on it.

If you are happy with your ute, then I dont see why you should sell it.

Worse case scenario, you sell your ute and dont get the price your after, buy the ESP and use it for a daily and something lets go. Then your out of pocket with a car that is worth something but cant be used as reliable transport.

It has happened to me in a way. I used to have a WH 5.7 stato, sold it to buy a CL chrysler panel Van. I bought a EF XR8 for a daily. Now i modified my XR8 because i didnt have the patience nor time for the Panel. Now to get it in a state where its worth something may take 10-20 grand (they are rarish, but are around) where that could've been spent on a newer car or even a deposit on a house, etc. And the EF is enjoyable, but when I go to sell it or let it go or even upgrade, it wont be worth 2/3 of the total costs spent doing it...

Seemed like a good idea at the time..

Well i've had a sleep on it and common sense has kicked in a bit, so the ute stays!

Just as a heads up if theres anyone interested the esp will be advertised in the quakka today, probably a bit more than what i could have bought it for but it is a nice car.

Cheers Chad

I know it's not the same but the old boy had a XY GT from new, which he still goes on about to day. In Like 79/80 everybody was telling him to sell the GT cost to much to run, Fuel crises, parts Blar blar blar and he gave in and sold it. Says the day he watched the new owner drive off with it down the street he new then he shouldn't have sold it.

If you want the ESP, if it's the car you have always wanted and you can swing it I would take it as you may never get another chance to get one.

They are worth a bit these days, and i can only see them going up in price over the next few years, as apposed to your AU.
I know what I would be doing!

DoreSlamR I would buy the ESP u can always pull the 302 put it in the corner of the shed build a stout 351 for her as so u can put back to standard later on..Your Au will depreciate but the ESP wont..

Thanks for all the replies guys, i don't think i'm in a position to do what i want to with the XE and that would be a waste of a classic car (or future classic car).
