My local BP dealer informs me that soon you will only have two choices E10 or premium, 91 octane will no longer be made. So if you have a vehicle that is not compatible with E10 you will have no option but to run premium. An extra 8 - 10 cents per litre. I am not sure if he was having a lend of me, however, I tend to believe him because he doesn't have much of a sense of humour and is usually straight down the line.

The upgrade of a car to run on E10 is not all that hard I would imagine??
Just replace the fuel lines and possibly the pump / filter. I read that the main reason a car was not compatable was due to the corrosive nature of E10... |

I always run 98ron....so unless they get rid of that. I'm not worried....Like food, fuel is pretty much essential these days. I'll pay for it no matter what it costs, simply cause I couldn't get by without my car.

Pretty much nailed it, some days I wonder if Ethanol is actually the most corrosive element in the world. Stainless steel fuel systems will be the new stainless steel exhausts.

According to Ford any Falcon after 1986 will run on E10. Call the 13FORD number and it will list the models that can and cannot run on e10. |

E10 is a scam . it is less economic than straight petrol . the 3 cents you save is burnt up in your lesser economy.

Regardless of blends etc. Fuel will still be the cheapest thing you put in your car.

16 replies and everyone discussing ethanol.
the article in question discusses oil reserves. NOT ETHANOL. anyway, i think the article is rather flawed. while there may be a good reserve of oil supplies for the near future (and i'm talking months), it is well documented that oil production is peaking. this will require some reading time though, so those who can only spend half a minute to read a couple of replies and then post something that has nothing to do with the original post, then i'd suggest you don't click on this link... http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/ |

We're all car enthusiasts here, Fiesta to F6, there's no reason for us not to use 98RON PULP.

KenLee - something called price, and for most of us, running 98RON is a pointless exercise - the cars don't care if it's a higher octane than ULP, as far as the ECU is concerned, it's still 91RON, and the car runs the same. Of course, for performance varieties where 96 or 98 RON is specified to achieve max power, then you'd be mad not to use it, but I don't envy you guys paying your $1.60 per litre, and then getting 400km out of a tank!

But as JC has pointed out, there is no advantage in running it unless your car has been designed for it.

http://www.fcai.com.au/ethanol.php/2.../00000005.html As silly as you think it is, there must be a reason behind it. Self proclaimed experts who know better and think that anything can / will run on E10 on anything that uses petrol with no bad outcome make me laugh even harder.... |
