Hi all,
Has anyone seen E85 for sale at the pump anywhere in Melbourne? My understanding is that there is one servo at Hoppers Crossing that has it, but im hoping to find one out the South East side somewhere... Anyone spotted it elsewhere, or can everyone keep a look out for it Cheers, Dave

isn't there a United servo that has/ or is about to set up for E85 in Vic?
I'm sure United lobbied the Gov to allow them to supply E85 just when Saaaaarrrbbbb released details of there E85 capable vehicle at a motor show. Jump on the United website, surely there will be some info on it. |

I didn't think that there were any places in Australia selling this stuff, It would be good if they did start bringing it out here, save more of the normal stuff for us enthusiasts.

Don't use it unless your fuel system has been modded to cope with its ability to destroy rubber hoses.

Gee, more than I thought, but only the one in VIC.
Just out of curiosity, What sort of car are you intending on putting this stuff into?

its all over the place at the moment, so its buyer beware, but so far for my applications it seems to be as good as most race fuels but with pump fuel pricing |

130 sounds good :P
Even if the Fuel does kill hoses, for the performance advantage when this stuff goes mainstream i'd get my fuel system converted and reap the benifits. |

haha
e85, what a joke you'll find it's characteristics very similar to LPG without the price benefit ie low energy, high octane fuel you need to modify your car to take it and at the end of the day, you're better off going LPG.

Gonna run my EB with a worked 6 on it soon. Been told the factory hose will be fine.
I need a bigger pump & injectors to run it tho. I've heard of a guy with a Falcon Saloon car that has used E85 and produced 200rwkws+

Ethanol produces 30% less energy than standard unleaded fuel, so the higher octane rating is really negligable.
I've seen LS1 guys get a tune for it and a new fuel system and gain only 10rwkw over the factory tune, which is less than they would gain from a tune for standard unleaded. Yet it cost them more and really limits their fuel options. |

Anyone bagging E85 has not done enough research. Go and find out, then come back and comment. If anyone thinks that putting E85 in your 182kw BA Fairmont will turn it into a V8 supercar needs a reality check.
Different fuels have inheirant strengths and weaknesses. In this case, E85 + Boost = UNBEATABLE. Daniel |

I ran the tank low in the EB today and put $30 of E85 at 99.9 in and got half a tank, when was last time anyone did that on 30 dollars?
At first it was ok then after 10 k and a few hours sitting it did run a little ruff and stalled once. I drove it for about five minutes having to stall up the car to keep it running at traffic lights and keep the foot flat to the floor on and off, it now seems to be idling fine. Will take it out later for a run down the freeway to see how it is, i'll post more after i do this. Oh and i have made no mods to run this.

I also had a good run running methanol with my stock car, runs cool, heaps of performance gains there too, more timing needed, no effect on rubber hoses and Orings, but your bound by the rules of the class your running in as to what fuels you can use. Was great for me at the time, I remember paying $185 for a 200L drum when petrol was a $1.10 a litre.....them was the days eh

Any Updates on when E85 will be becoming a more realistic option?
I.E Daily Driven or Weekend Warrior as at the moment unless you want to buy it by the Drum and store it, it's not practical. Decent 98 is hard to get where i live so i won't be holding my breath. |

Well didn't get to the freeway but took a spin around werribee. The car dose hesitate on take of like it almost stall then bursts into life and sometimes will idle a little ruff but all in all it feels good. Feels like it could use a tune and maybe some hotter spark plugs. This something that could do with more testing
After a quick search E85 is still only available in Hoppers Crossing :

Distributed through "Race Components" in south Melbourne, and have a pickup depot in dandenong. They sell it in 20L and 200L drums, no pumps as such. And if you’re not happy, they have plenty of other wicked fuel to tickle your fancy. 100 octane leaded anyone? 99.9% methanol? Cheers
