Default What would Burke and Wills drive?

We've all learnt about them in school - but if they lived today (2010) what would they take on their epic adventure instead of camels?

They wouldn't make it.

These days they would have to organise an Environmental Impact Study as well as obtain Indigenous Land Permits. They would then need to get permission from various State and local Gov bodies, The EPA, World Wildlife Fund, Greenpeace, The Flora and Fauna Protection Society, The RSPCA, The Save The Gay Whale Lobby and probably Harold bloody Scruby!

By the time this was achieved, if at all, they'd be dead!

I'd say a large turbo diesel wagon, Patrol, Land cruiser, Pajero etc...

I think they would just use Google Earth, and sit back, having a beer whilst plotting their misadventure in the comfort of their air conditioned home.

The only one of those that may do with serous off-road travel is the F100

My pick would be a
GU T/Top Patrol with a 6.5litre GM diesel.

Or a modified F250 7.3 power stroke

I thought this was For Forums - when did it become the 'over-priced pommy offroaders' or 'boring japanese 4x4' forums?

You're missing the point people... it's a blue oval quiz pertaining to some famous locals on Australia Day! Gawd.

Being serious for a sec .... because none of your choices would make it if they took the path they did?

Why is there an option for Maloo utes then if that was the criteria .... which wasn't quite clear if that was your intentions.

And I would go GasOlane's take on things ....... or a well specced Range Rover ... would want them to go in a bit of style!

This is probably true!

In any event O'hara Bourke was a goose and Wills a weakling as he didn't have the gumption to stand up to Bourke after the dig tree & it cost both their lives.

Bourke would have chosen the Proton Brumby's over Wills idea of the Rav 4's. In any event both would die...........

“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

If it was done today it would probably be a Chinese sponsored mineral exploration expedition, so it would be great wall utes all round.

If they wanted to make it they would take a Lancruiser Diesel, or a Patrol Diesel, nothing esle comes close to the realablity and the all round suitability of these vehicles on such trips
