Hello there comrades
I am looking at purchasing a large Australian-built and designed automobile in the next couple of months. I am wondering if anybody here has been there recently, and what prices were paid for such models. I last went at the start of 2006 and with large car prices dropping, I would like some idea on what I would be paying for such a vehicle. I would appreciate any help.

FG XT - 17 grand (2008 plate).
FG XR6 - 19 - 21 (2008 plate). FG G6 - 20 - 23 (2008 plate). VE Omega - 13 - 17 (2009 plate). VE Berlina - 19 (2008 plate). VE SV6 - 23 - 24 (2008 plate). kms on any of these range from about 45 - 70 kay. For a low km (under 15,000) add about 2,000 to the higher end. Theres alot of XR6 / SV6 ex rentals around, whether you buy one is up to you bu they arent well looked after cars, they dont service them properly and they only get washed by automatic brush car washes (damage the paint).

Was at the auctions in Frankston today, couldn't get $2K for a clean AU2 Futura. BA's-BFs seemed to go from $5 1/2K up. A Clean 04 Territory with reasonable K's went for $13,900. An 07 VE Berlina coudn't get a start at 13K.

SY TX 07 ex rentals 19 - 23 kay depending on options / condition / kms. VE Omegas seem to get thrashed the worse on resale, probably because there are soo soo many of them.

On way home from Canberra. I inspected one at another auction house in Sydney, took for a test drive, agreed on the great price, got details etc was told he would hold it for me until the next day to allow me time to get home (Newcastle) to arrange insurance and transfer the payment etc. He sold it. Just glad i rang to confirm before the payment was made... As for the VE Omega, can certainly understand why the resale would be terrible. There are so many of them landing at the auctions / car yards.

If you sign up to the site as a basic (free) member you can get the last months results and prices. You cant bid or watch auctions but unless you pay.
You can watch Pickles auctions for free after joining, need to pay to bid only. XT FG - 3 years old 70kms around $12K - 2 years old 50kms around $15k from my recent watching. White, LPG or XR6 dearer as usual. |

Can someone please explain the process a little. I know how an auction works but are the cars decent? I always thought that everything at auction would be a ******* that dealers didnt want to put on the used lot.
Im currently looking for a run about for the missus and dont want to spend hugh amounts but is it worth going to an auction. Obviously getting it roadworthy is your problem once if you win, but do you get chance to see and test the cars before hand? Cheers

There are auctions for those cheaper/older cars that the big dealers don't want, such as the Monday night auction at Springwood.
Some auctions are dealer only, in that you have to be a licensed dealer to buy. These are where most yards get their stock. Other auctions are finance repo, ex government and fleet, ex hire and lease, and so on. You typically do not get a chance to drive and definately take some risk however if you know what you're looking it it's a good way to purchase a vehicle without the dealer markup. I have bought quite a few vehicles from auction and have not once had a problem apart from a suspension bush, shock absorber or two.

I see your in Bne, if you want a bit more security go the Public Trustee auctions at QT Zillmere every Friday. These cars are all ex govt and 90% of them are sold roadworthy, so just buy it and walk to the office pay rego, get numberplates and drive away. Of course they are a little bit dearer. If the car is sold registered you get a 3 month warranty as the public trustee is a motor dealer, However first they will tell you to use the rest of the manufacturers warranty. Just go and have a look and see how it happens. You cannot drive the cars but you can start them, (unless they have aflat battery - they will jump you so you can leave) Most Pickles/Manheim cars are unregistered and need Safety certificates etc if they are to be driven off the lot. So you need a trailer or towtruck - more expense. |
